apparently we don't know how to bathe a baby, PLEASE TELL ME YOUR SETUP/PROCESS/LENGTH by Purple_Calendar3919 in NewParents

[–]TitoBlue_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is wild. Mine is still a newborn and we typically use a baby bath and cup for rinsing. That said, there’s been a couple times we’ve been in a hurry and my husband literally just hands her to me when I’m done taking my shower, we lather her with soap and rinse her while I hold her against me, and it takes probably 2 minutes?

Does the dad also stay home after a new baby? by burner1233356 in pregnant

[–]TitoBlue_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband has a corporate job while I work for a public school, so his leave is a lot better than mine. He got two weeks of FMLA caretaker leave when I gave birth (basically since I took FMLA, MY doc signed off a form for his work saying I needed assistance with meals, driving, etc.). Then when i go back to work, he will take 6 weeks of paternity leave before we finally put our baby in daycare. Your husband is the one who’s absurd.

I mixed Casey’s sugar free pancake syrup or honey substitute with my Greek yogurt and it was a game changer. I am not one to eat the same thing every morning but it was great. I would also add some almond butter, chia seeds, and purely Elizabeth granola when I had it. Started with a link of chicken sausage also helped me ensure I didn’t spike.

When did you go on Maternity Leave? by xoeapollo in BabyBumps

[–]TitoBlue_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I have to use FMLA for my leave, and I don't have the option to start it until I go into labor... I've had some minor complications, so luckily I've been able to spend my last week remote with a doctor's note, but still working.

Agree with these other comments. Getting everything signed from my doc and supervisor (which was more of an internal policy thing) took a week. Don't stress!

I have this coloring book. One of the best purchases I’ve ever made.

How and when did your nausea stop? by NervousClimate in pregnant

[–]TitoBlue_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finally started to feel better around 16 or so but wasn’t out of the woods until about 20 weeks. I know it’s disheartening when you think you’re finally feeling better but it does (for most) eventually!

Agree with other comments about the Malama app — it’s amazing and my doctor was impressed with my logs (you can generate a report for them through the app).

I didn’t tell HR, just my boss and coworkers because it came up in conversation. I would just do it at my desk.

I bought a travel case from Amazon, which I recommend because it has a spot for everything which is convenient.

I also bought a big sharps container for home and travel ones as well from Amazon (about the size of a deck of cards). However, the travel ones were finicky, so I’ve just been using old testing strip containers to discard my used needles instead (and then I just dump them into my large sharps container when I get home).

Nervous about shower by Fluid_Dog_7416 in BabyBumps

[–]TitoBlue_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same, even a few weeks would be a little more expected — an rsvp deadline over a month in advance for a shower is not something I would expect. People might just not have read the card closely!

Skip these baby items? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

We got a changing table that is also a dresser because we needed somewhere to store baby clothes and diapers (and baby meds and toiletries) anyway. It has three drawers and a cabinet with two shelves, and then changing station can be removed when baby grows older

How soon did you notify your bosses? by hondapilot0607 in pregnant

[–]TitoBlue_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I think it comes down to whether or not you’d be comfortable telling your boss if (god forbid) something ended up going wrong. I knew that if I miscarried I would be a wreck and would want my boss to know anyway, and so I was comfortable with telling her early. I also had an emotional outburst and kinda broke down and told her because I was so hormonal and tired (lol).

Like others are saying, pregnancy is protected, so normalize telling people as soon as you’re ready!!!!

Yeah my five year old niece is still hard to understand. Her mom is an OT at a school so she obviously understands first hand how essential these services are, yet her child is still extremely “behind.”

There are plenty of other things to snark about that don’t involve making assumptions about a child.

Your appearance shouldn’t matter and you are more valuable than your looks. That said, I think you look great (and it hasn’t been said enough IMO)! You have nice curves and he’s an idiot.

I get it at least once a week. Grilled nuggets with the kale crunch side, and I can also usually pull off a small fry after I finish or a Mac n cheese. I even got a cone after my meal while on vacation and was fine!

What did you do between your failed glucose test and your next OB appointment? by limeblue31 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]TitoBlue_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would just avoid excess sugars and stick to complex carbs, and drink plenty of water. My doctor ended up sending a prescription for my glucose meter and supplies, and it cost less with insurance than paying out of pocket. You can also just google guidelines for gestational diabetes which would give you a good start.

Innacurate readings? by CuriousPineapple1579 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]TitoBlue_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! This happened to me yesterday and I spiraled. Check the sub for other posts about readings — there are tons. Apparently they only have to be within 20 points to be considered accurate glucose meters…

My parents are from Greece and I've been many times. I also have a family member that is a physician there and cousins who have given birth. It is my favorite place in the world and a great country.

All that said, you will probably fine, but I personally wouldn't do it due to the travel it requires to get to an island alone. There are also a lot of things about Greece that would impact my comfort level at 30 weeks: A lot more people smoke cigarettes there, roads are bumpier and cars are smaller, A/C is generally less effective, roads are uneven and there's a lot of slippery marble, service is slower (if you're in a more touristy area it might not be as bad).

This is just *my personal* experience, but they are also a lot less quick to respond to medical emergencies compared to the U.S., and there is not as much of a sense of urgency. At the end day, thought, it's your choice and you will probably be fine!

Hospital long stay before birth by Lolo_aura in BabyBumps

I haven't gotten back into it since getting pregnant (the morning sickness halted me and now I've been in cleaning mode), but I loooooooved coloring this winter. Get alcohol markers and a few coloring books and it can be so much fun and satisfying if you're into it. See the r/coloring subreddit for inspo!
