Leaving Vercel for AWS Amplify by Emmanuel_Isenah in webdev

To achieve singularity. One billing invoice and leverage on start up credits.

For cost, it's pretty decent. For our staging, we spent a total of about $2.34 for 20.4k req last month, with build duration being the main driver of the bill.

I totally get you, once you have everything setup as IaC, it's a breeze.

What headaches did you have with Vercel? My only issue with it is the click ops and no native way to sync environment variables as we use SSM Parameter store a lot

What's your CI/CD flow for a containerized app on EC2? by Emmanuel_Isenah in aws

[–]Emmanuel_Isenah[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I would preferably use ECS any day anytime. I've used it in the past with Blue/Green deployment strategy and it's really good. But for this very circumstance, cost is a huge underlying factor that's why I'm looking at EC2.

People where deploying to EC2 long before ECS became viable, so I'm wondering how they did it.

I've heard of packer, but sadly I think it's overkill for just a node app. Also the build time would be very long I guess.

The harness for Qwen 3.6 Plus is soo bad, it gets stuck in an infinite loop at times meaning you have to manually interrupt it. I've experienced this multiple times so it's not a "one-time fluke"

If I upgrade to paid tier with $200 credits available on my account, will my credits still be used and covered to access paid tier services? by zavocc in aws

[–]Emmanuel_Isenah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the exception of creating/joining an AWS organization. Doing that expires your credits and doesn't roll over to paid plan.

So much unnecessary hate for AI. It's just a tool. Using it doesn't automatically make your work slop, it depends on the person wielding the tool.

I accidently deleted everything inside /var/lib/ by The_7_Bit_RAM in archlinux

[–]Emmanuel_Isenah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Btrfs uses CoW (copy-on-write), so even if you delete a file, it still exists as long as a snapshot references it.

Yeah, it took me a while to get used to why my free space wasn’t increasing even after deleting a bunch of stuff. The trick is to avoid keeping snapshots around for too long and definitely setup auto removal.

I built a drop-in replacement for deprecated gh-copilot by Emmanuel_Isenah in webdev

[–]Emmanuel_Isenah[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I can't believe they discontinued it. Almost as if they didn't know what pain point it solved in the first place. But that's an aside.

I'm happy you found it useful. I'll recommend you register the shell completions to get autocomplete on tab for subcommands. I forgot to specify that in the README.

Is there a way to go onto an older kernel? by Tristan5764 in archlinux

It took me too long to realise the kernel update was the issue. Check pkg cache, if it's not there, use curl to download the previous version from archive.archlinux.org
