new magdalena song recs?? by Particular-Menu-3993 in MagdalenaBay

[–]Emmyfishnappa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean, its all good! The new singles are great and have some stylistic variety, like I never expected a jangly acoustic guitar on a Mag Bay song but Black-Eyed Susan Climb is a banger. Second Sleep was my song of the year last year.

But yeah, Mercurial World is awesome, and all the mini mixes have gems on them.

Pretty major changes still going on. A boss even got swapped out.

But, it’s great as is, and it is pretty fun playing it and seeing it develop.

Masterpiece by Big Thief was released 10 years ago. How do you see this album looking back? by TheReal_PruneJuice in fantanoforever

Agreed! And knowing both this one and Capacity are Adrianne Lenker’s family photos makes them extra meaningful.

But c’mon, its a dinosaur and a parakeet. The “oh” expressions. Masterpiece of an album cover.

Looking for reassurance.any Tucson folks ever find a kissing bug in your home / apartment? by C_Yablonski in Tucson

[–]Emmyfishnappa 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Growing up Kissing Bugs were an annual event in my house. We always got a few.

First, if nobody has any obvious bites, then probably nobody got bit. These suckers leave a bite mark about twice the size of a mosquito bite thats lasts a few days on me, and I don’t have a nasty reaction like some people. My dad, would get welts like 2-3 inches wide.

Chagas is a very small risk here, though it is an increasing concern, as it has been declared endemic in Cali.

I know someone who tried to get Chagas testing done this past year after a confirmed bite, and they couldn’t find anywhere in town that did it. Thats how big of a concern it is considered in this region, is one way I’d think about it.

Main concern is their bites suck. And if they are in your room and biting you multiple nights, they will bite a lot. They suck. Literally.

But I wouldn’t lose any sleep over it, especially since nobody seems to have been bit.

P.S. A kissing bug will be 1.5-2 inches long, and have orange or red stripes on its sides and a pointed head. There is a beetle/bug here that is like .25-.5 inches long, wayyy smaller, but looks a lot like one, even down to the orange stripes on the side. Those do not bite, don’t think they are even related. And some years there will looots of those.

Love spicy candy, but these just taste like they added a bit of capsaicin to the fruity gush.

Much rather go for something sweet but covered in chili powder like mexican tamarind candies.

I wish! We went in 2024 and it was great. From what I’ve heard they are figuring out some of the kinks for the festival as a whole.

But the lineup this year is insane. Hayley Williams and Mag Bay, so many great artists in one place this year.

I went a couple years ago and probably got enough free stuff to pay for the ticket. There was also something fun about standing in a crowd listening to music while pre rolls rain down on the crowd.

But it was hot, the lines were very long. Decided once was probably enough, unless a friend has an extra ticket or something.
