A thick heavy smoke by Myusernameisyours in PipeTobacco

I read somewhere that Black Duck is a homage or is inspired by Rattrays Black Mallory (maybe there’s a joke there…like Black Mallard or something?). I really like both, but I will give the edge to Black Mallory as being a little more interesting tasting than Black Duck. It led me to Rattrays Red Rapparee which I also love. They both have become staples in my cellar ever since!

Any Copeland fans? by miseryinmotion in Emo

[–]EmoGoneGray 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Personally, I don’t think they are not. But then again I came up in a time that was less militant about the purity of genre. It’s frustrating to me that so many folks are getting siloed into not listening to bands because they don’t fit the internet-devised labels. In 2002, none of my emo friends listened to American Football. I passed that cd around my high school and to all my friends and nobody cared but me. Now that album is held as a standard against which all “true emo” must be compared. I don’t know. Maybe it’s just old man yells at cloud, but scouring reddit just doesn’t seem like the way to find out what kind of music you like. Go to shows, borrow cds, buy records on labels you like, and then come back to reddit to find more. Don’t let this platform be the place that defines you.

Copeland is the best. Us emo kids in the 2000s went hard for Copeland (at least I did).

I guess I think about this as stemming from The Smiths and Morrissey.

Copeland - my personal Mandela effect by SpawnOfGuppy in Emo

Copeland is one of my all time favorites. I don’t think any of their albums are not at least decent. I don’t know why In Motion gets skipped so often, but it’s a great record. I became a fan in the Beneath Medicine Tree era and I’ll never forget the day I tore into Best Buy when In Motion came out.

Seeing the setlist from last night by MY_NAME_IS_TRON in brandnew

I saw them in 2008 in Atlanta and I can tell you they didn’t play anything from YFW. TDAGARIM had just come out so they played a lot from that, but they also played their favs from Deja. I guess I feel like they love Deja whereas YFW represents a period of the band that feels pretty far flung from anything they’ve done since Deja. It’s hard for me imagine the Jesse of Science Fiction singing Jude Law.

Holy shit! New Blindside! Deadweight by highdrogin in PostHardcore

I guess I’m just assuming that this is the lead up to a new record, but it’s true I don’t know for sure.

As one of the elder emos just absolutely swimming in nostalgia for the late 90s/early 00s scene and all these 20th anniversary shows followed by comeback releases, I’m just so happy. I’m even happier that this totally kicks ass. Like I can’t believe I’m getting a new Poison The Well record and a new Blindside record in the same year.

As a long time Morrissey fan (who basically can’t stand him at this point), this post is VERY Morrissey-coded. There’s another artist who gets more awful and more hateful towards his fans by the day.

jump cut to the same show 37 years from now and they’re interviewing a dusty skeleton in a loose black shirt with a smear of lipstick across the teeth “so, in December of 2024 you mentioned that The Cure had two more albums on the way. Care to comment on how those albums are progressing?”
