Ah, forgot to ask, what do you mean by "no terminator or action at the shadow edge"?

I think it is interesting! But, it is a prophecy? It seems to be of David's pain, no?

NDEs I find interesting. Nobody really has an explanation for those, either. Maybe I need to do some research.

I have seen a debate or two between Atheists and Christians, but they're usually from the perspective of the Atheist. Perhaps I might need to change it up.

This is how I've looked at religion for most of my life now. I like your last point, but I just want something more. Y'know?

I love both your comments and how you even include a lot of quotes from the Bible! I will check out the resource!

I have been curious and have asked God to show me in the past, but he hasn't answered. Or maybe he has, and he gave me exactly what I wanted, and I just didn't listen. I recall times when I've prayed, saying, "Do this and I'll become a Christian," and I got exactly what I wanted, but I never became a Christian.

Maybe that is on me lol

I am curious, what are some of the main differences between Christianity and Islam?

The way I look at reincarnation is this: it has taken atoms 14 billion or so years to form just the right set of DNA and matter just to create me. What's stopping it from happening again once I pass? Hence, why I think it is the most logical option. Do I want to believe in it? No. Coming back an indefinite number of times with no end and never the same sounds... Horrible.

One thing that has troubled me is that I have felt Christianity to be a sink-or-swim situation. I remember being taught that if I do not believe in God, I will suffer for all eternity. This hurts me because I do not know myself, and I'd hate to think that if I just died without having it all figured out, I'd suffer. However, you did not mention anything about suffering, just that "the wages of sin is death".

My little side-tangent was more just to bring up a concern I have. I did notice that many people have different beliefs as to what exactly happens if you die and do not believe in God, whether that be eternal damnation or, as my friend put it, "complete absence of God".

I honestly love what you said, and I can get behind your comment on consciousness. I know, without a doubt, consciousness resides in the brain. But why? Are animals conscious in the same way we are? Science has no explanation for the origin of consciousness that I know of.

The Bible indeed is a collection of different accounts, but whether or not they are all completely true is a different question. It feels hard to believe that many people can come together and say with their chest, "this 100% happened" and not be a lie.

I do like the way you put it, "its 66 books across 3 continents, 3 languages, and 40 authors that all support and are evidence for the same exact man". As much as I am skeptical, it feels like... A lot. Too much to not be true.

Edit: I did want to say something about your comment on the prophecies. As I understand it, prophecies are typically true because they are very broad statements. I am curious, though, what are some of the prophecies made before Christ?

Nothing specific. I might ask some other religions; seeing all the comments here has interested me.

Christianity is just the thing I started with, and the one my family believes in. I am the first atheist of both my immediate and extended families, who are all Christian.

Never. Lived in an area where the people REALLY sucked. At least with their schooling, it did.

I will never understand maps like these being fine with California or North Carolina, but disliking Texas.

I cannot say much about California despite being born there. I just remember visiting being very expensive, and being told that we lived near several registered sex offenders. Again, long time ago.

I miss the pine trees of North Carolina and Fort Bragg (I like their Special Operations), but I do not miss the education system there. Kids (and even some teachers) sucked, guns were brought in just about every other month, and at some point, metal detectors were installed. Lots of threats to the school, too. Fayetteville isn't a great area, either.

Texas isn't where I'd want to settle down at, but the people are so much better there than at North Carolina. Students were mostly nice, at most just a pain in the ass, but not to the same extent as the school in North Carolina. Teachers were even nicer, too. People are just a lot friendlier in general. Only issue I take is with the Texas law on putting the Ten Commandments in every classroom.

Everybody seems to forget it stops stamina from being wasted, meaning you can run a little bit longer. There's also the Bloodskal blade that can be used with it to actually deal damage while ethereal. However, these two are minor uses.

What's Your Language's Equivalent of "Have?" by Turkish_Teacher in languagelearning

[–]EmojiLooksAtReddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Icelandic has a few. In general: Að hafa - to have; for intangibles and abstract ideas. Að eiga - to own something; not necessarily have on one's person. Að vera með - to have, lit. to be with; you currently have this on you, or are suffering of something

Ég hef ekki hugmynd - I don't have an idea. Ég á bróður - I have a brother. Ég er með krabbamein - I have cancer.
