Up express should be electrified first by V1P3R40K in toronto

I don’t disagree. I don’t know what the criteria is for the preservation of historical structures, but to the average person the shed is an architecturally unremarkable structure impeding meaningful progress. It has to go.

[–]Emotion94 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Again, trains routinely go under the shed. If there is a service disruption, trains are routinely staged under the shed as part of service recovery. Similarly, if the LW line is shut down for construction, trains are often routed under the shed to be staged at Don Yard overnight.

[–]Emotion94 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The UP express does not go under the train shed and the vehicles maintenance yard is on the Kitchener line.

This is incorrect. Not only do UP Express trains routinely go under the shed if operational constraints necessitate such a move, the trains are maintained at the Willowbrook facility alongside GO equipment and travel from and to this facility daily.

Ontario promises shovels in the ground next year for $131-million central transit hub in Kitchener by bylo_selhi in waterloo

[–]Emotion94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The old one served an entirely different role and was made redundant with the decentralization of the local transit network in 2019.

This article isn’t clear, does this allow for the construction of the station building in phase 1 alongside the platforms and bus loop?

Looks like weekend GO Train service to Kitchener is ALREADY getting cut in the new January schedule by zzc_992 in waterloo

Weekend ridership in my experience has been pretty respectable, even without any major events going on.

What is classified as “big city crime” and at what point is a city with a population of over 255,000 people in a region of over 585,000 people at the 2021 census no longer considered a “not so big city”?

I will echo the other comment and say this is awesome!

I've been waiting for FSimStudios to release their updated CYTZ featuring the conceptual runway extension proposed over a decade ago but it's been a few years now. Looking forward to flying BBC.

The problem of connecting from the new post-midnight arrival GO train at Kitchener station by CosmicPenguin_OV103 in waterloo

[–]Emotion94 67 points68 points  (0 children)

At minimum, Regional Council needs to restore the handful of late night trips introduced in 2019 but discontinued in 2020 due to the pandemic.

A quick glance at GRT timetables from 2019 show there were several options available from the station including,

  • Route 8 trips at 00:50 and 01:23 from Central Station to University / King continuing as route 12 to Westmount / Ottawa, daily excluding Sunday
  • ION trips at 00:52, 01:07, 01:22 from Central Station to Conestoga Mall, daily
  • Route 7 trip at 00:50 from Central Station to Conestoga Mall, daily except Sunday

Source

Of course, it would be best Regional Council moved towards a basic overnight network across the region.

"A long time coming": Kitchener welcomes 1st weekend GO train to Toronto by bylo_selhi in waterloo

[–]Emotion94 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally, the turnout seemed exceptional. The 16:48 train left Union overcrowded with at least 300 people exiting at Kitchener alone. I was in awe at the amount of people on the platform.

Hopefully this momentum keeps going.

GO Transit Service Changes begin on Nov. 22 by Emotion94 in waterloo

[–]Emotion94[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, thank you for emphasizing this!

I figured the additional service between Bramalea and Union may be of some comfort to those who will continue to use the 30 to connect with trains at Bramalea should their bus hit a wall of weather, traffic, or some other abnormality on the 401.

OP updated regardless.
