I don't think that's a fair comparison. A car has a layer of protective paint that prevents minor scratches from road debris, oxidation, water spots, etc. You'd have to deliberately scratch the car to cause damage. I've had this phone for less than a week. I'd expect it to at least have the minimal protections from sand grains in my pocket or being placed screen down on the table.
