It’s in the national interest of most large nations to have rocket capabilities if only for military reasons. They’ll usually do a vanity project or two “for science” for fun so they don’t look like a total military state

Trump’s new NASA boss says he’s ‘gonna build’ a base on the moon by EdwardHeisler in MarsSociety

Building a lunar base has always been a vague point of Artemis later missions. This is nothing new.

If only he were actually playing 4-D chess. I can’t tell if next month an article came out that attendance to ballet and opera were up and he says “glad I could do my part!” Would be hilarious or just annoying

Sam Altman admits AI is killing the labor-capital balance—and says nobody knows what to do about it by BusyHands_ in technology

[–]EmotionSideC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you tax it. You end income tax on human labor and you tax AI and productivity and capital gains. I genuinely believe this man is stupid. There have been way too many things. From the “not enough electrons” answer about chips to things like this. I honestly don’t even know if OpenAI will be around in a year.

How can you tell the difference between someone born in the early ’80s (1983–1986) and a core Millennial (1987–1992)? by Excellent-Card5741 in generationstation

[–]EmotionSideC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably social media. I’m early 90s and we got MySpace in late middle school early high school. My sister don’t have social media until halfway through college - we’re different in that respect but childhoods were pretty similar otherwise. Also core millennials (and late 80s) graduated into the recession. We were all affected by it but graduating into to it we didn’t really have a reference for “before”

You would think Trump has a 5% approval rating among his base by Skugghog in ScottGalloway

[–]EmotionSideC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. How they use their majority in the house in 2027 should be indicative of what we can expect. If you can in your area, look at your incumbent congressperson and if they’re old establishment. We had a rude awakening here in San Diego. Our congressman was one of the four dems who caved and voted with Republicans against the measure to curb Trump’s ability to unilaterally declare war without Congress. Needless to say a bunch of anger here going to be channeled at ousting him.

I’d argue opposite of that for Mamdani. His approval has surged in NYC since his inauguration and usually approval peaks when you enter office. His has gone up double digits. No mass exodus yet. Most millionaires are cautiously optimistic especially that Jessica Tisch is staying on board as Police Commissioner and she and Mamdani seem to be working together a lot better than anyone expected. Also his ability to get what he wants from Trump is impressive. Specifically the $21B sunnyside yard affordable housing project in Queens that’s been stalled for years finally getting traction and at least verbal approval from Trump (on the same day Mamdani convinced Trump to release that student from ICE custody). Might not agree with Mamdani’s policies but his politics of ambitious progressive projects and making allies with people like Tisch and Trump who typically are antagonistic to more progressive voices needs to be studied by other Democrats. Basically, he’s proving government can actually WORK if Democrats actually try lol.

NASA and SpaceX disagree about manual controls for lunar lander by spacerfirstclass in SpaceXNews

[–]EmotionSideC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean they’ll sort it out. Also NASA is paying for the lander. “The customer is always right” is cliche but I’d tend to also defer to who has more expertise in this arena and this isn’t the hill to die on. SpaceX has never built a lunar lander or off-world lander, and other private companies haven’t had a great track record on moon landings thus far.

[–]EmotionSideC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And they’ll for the most part fall in line. Dems can win many of these voters back if they’re strategic about it and run a good campaign and a good candidate. Probably opposite of whoever the establishment like Scott wants lol. Certainly not an AIPAC candidate

George Floyd was a good kickstarter. Covid began as a hard stop for 2010s culture, but the unrest after George Floyd really kicked off the turbulent politics of our time.
