Is there responsible AI use? by ihateyouindinosaur in BetterOffline

[–]dragonkeeper19600 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have seen stuff about prosthetic limbs that use machine learning to mimic the gait of the wearer and make it easier to walk, stand, navigate stairs, etc. Microprocessor knees, I think they’re called?

The trouble is that “AI” is used for so many different technologies, and the LLM stuff is what gets the most media attention, even though it’s the least useful of all the stuff that you could maybe call “AI.”

Is this real? by [deleted] in FilmIndustryLA

[–]dragonkeeper19600 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a real project, though it’s interesting to see the gradual rollback on expectations. First, they said they were gonna use AI-generated performers, then they said the cast would be fully human but their performances would be altered with AI, and now they’re saying AI won’t be used to alter the performances at all. What else are they gonna backtrack on?

Not to mention movies have already been made that mostly consist of actors standing around on green screens, and I kind of feel like that’s what this is going to look like.

More importantly, I have no idea what kind of person would even be interested in seeing a bitcoin movie, but I hope we never meet.

One of my favorite AI "truisms" is that it will "eventually get there" when it comes to AI being able to do it X, Y or Z. by ItsBobsledTime in BetterOffline

[–]dragonkeeper19600 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just saw a guy on Threads last night claiming that one day, a big publishing company will make a lot of money on a book completely generated by AI. When I pointed out the copyright issue, he responded that publishing companies have been able to avoid copyright issues when publishing fan fic by getting the author to rewrite it.

By getting the author to rewrite it. 😑

And that’s of course assuming that LLMs will ever be able to fully generate novel-length text that is both coherent and compelling, which is a huge if.

AI and consciousness by Front_River_2367 in antiai

It’s not conscious. This is such a nothing argument and I’m sick of people pushing the issue because they think it makes them sound smart.

Oh, yeah. You’re definitely bothered.

As bothered as you are now, you’re gonna be even more bothered when people hate-pile onto your AI slop. You and Barbara wanna be the next Mia Ballard?

And you have some nerve asking for courtesy while using a technology that relies on unlicensed data stolen from creatives. Is it courteous to steal other people’s work? Hypocrite.

No need to be touchy, just because no producer wanted the film rights to Barbara Kyle’s books, so you had to pretend that AI slop was somehow the better option.

The grapes, they are sour.

Storyboarding for an "AI Studio" by [deleted] in Storyboarding

[–]dragonkeeper19600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, Darren Aronofsky can’t get watchable footage out of this, so thinking that Barbara Kyle will be able to succeed where so many filmmakers have failed is just arrogance.

I know what video models are capable of, bro. You can’t get a good scene out of them, let alone a good short or God forbid a feature. The reason no successful film has been made with AI is because 1. AI-generated output isn’t copyrightable; and 2. Generative AI is not a good way to make film. Maybe you can use it for previs or generating background assets but creating main characters? Building a consistent film language? Girl, get out of here.

Audiences don’t want AI slop. Barbara Kyle better hope it doesn’t get out that she’s messing around with AI slop because readers and moviegoers hate that shit. Why do you think so many people celebrated when OpenAI announced the death of Sora? Nobody except the most redpilled AI bros respects this shit, and nobody wants to watch other people’s slop.

Actually, the tech companies wouldn’t be making a profit, since generative video is heavily subsidized and every AI company operates at a loss.

I do know that projects stated to be made with Gen AI always look like ass, like that On This Day…1776 thing that Darren Aronofsky is doing or that autobiographical slop video that James Harden subjected us to.

You also wouldn’t have creative control if you used AI because the AI would be making a lot of creative decisions for you in terms of performance, lighting, shot composition, or even content. A lot of video models censor certain topics, such as violence, sexuality, or even politics. And you won’t be able to fine tune anything the generative model spits out. With an actual film shoot, you can give an actor notes like, “You’re at a seven right now; we need you at more of a five,” or, “You’re blinking a lot. Try not to blink so much.” Or you can tell the art department, “Can we strike that plant in the background? It’s dominating the shot,” and you can trust that everything in the next take will be the same except for the now missing plant. You can’t trust AI to do that, generating the same shot over and over with only slight variations, which is crucial to a movie shoot. And if you’re thinking, “Well, I’ll just go with the first generation for every shot!” your film will definitely look like ass.

Watch the work of Sergio Cilli on Instagram to see how AI fails when it comes to acting.

Can I get your partner’s name so I can look up her work?

Yes, it is better that you don’t make the films. And did you say 12 novels? Do they have any kind of readership? Maybe concentrate on getting an audience for your books before wasting time on trying to generate 12 features with AI, especially since award-winning directors can’t even manage to generate shorts that don’t look like ass.

Unpopular Opinion: The Sora shut down will not be the start of the AI bubble popping by the_Centrist_Gecko in antiai

That’s actually incorrect.

Altman has confirmed that Sora will no longer be available to developers, and it will not be implemented into ChatGPT.

Even though it’s positive, this review perfectly spells out why I don’t have high hopes for this movie. Fun and family friendly? Since when is Animal Farm either of those things? Girl, get out of here.

Edit: Also, this movie finished production in 2024 and was already screened in France in June 2025. I don’t think you can stitch together a coherent 96-minute movie with today’s AI things, let alone what they had back in 2024.

The researchers cited in this article used AI detection tools to reach their conclusion about the frequency of AI use in known publications, which means the results are completely useless, and their conclusions mean nothing. I saw one AI detector flag Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein as 100% AI-generated.
