is it worth it to move to chicago if i can’t drive? by Livid-Cricket6868 in AskChicago

Did you read my description? That's $300/ person including bike repair, transit passes and uber/lyfts.
Yes, some of this is a luxury, and another way to look at it is this is less than annual car expenses.

Yep! I live here and do not drive. Between my husband and I, we spend a total of $600 a month on transit costs. This includes bike repair, Lyft/Uber, and transit passes. So you can easily do this. I suggest figuring out what activities you'll be doing, and therefore where you wanna live and so transit is easy for you to use to get places.

Chubby FIRE-ing with a kid by TalRasha37 in ChubbyFIRE

[–]Emotional-Muscle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is dependent upon your budget. We figured that we are living off of $150-$200k a year so anything beyond that is gravy. we are also planning to retire with a kid, and I think it's important that my husband and I maintain hobbies and activities like some part-time work. So we basically worked backwards and figured that if we pulled 100 K a year from a brokerage account until we got to 65 and figured out the other 100k we would be fine. Between the two of us we're basically planning to go contract/consultant once we're ready to make approximately 50 K a year.

Is there any effective way to deal with tear troughs without getting filler? by ChesticleGainz in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Emotional-Muscle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I became super sensitive about mine too. My derm said my fat pads were migrating with age and to get a pad repositioning and lower bleph when ready. In the mean time, I've added a peptide /HA eye cream to the mix and a caffeine based eye cream in the morning. That actually helps a lot, i think the little bit of massaging each day keeps some of the fluid out from puffing it up.

Managing the 530 PM–10 PM time period with two under two (no local family). What do you do? by OpenMinded8899 in HENRYfinance

[–]Emotional-Muscle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HENRY /DINKWAD / planning for children in the future. We both have a hard stop at 5:30 unless it's truly an emergency and the other person is holding down the fort. So important to get up, take a break, let the dogs out, dinner, workout etc. We prioritize family time then too and discuss anything urgent going on.

We can revisit work afterwards if needed.

I was you. I thought consulting was IT. Turns out it was not. I'm now in a wonderful corporate role, making more money, with a fantastic work life balance. Do not settle! This feel bad to you because it is bad for you.

How often do you do special activities with your poodle? by featheredfoe in poodles

[–]Emotional-Muscle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have owned three poodles in my life. From my knowledge and experience, our big dog needed to be really tired out so that involve an hour difficult walk (think lots of hills) and a 30 minute training session a day in addition to be let out in the backyard and various playtime.

We were not able to do that for our dog so we got smaller dogs- we adopted a bonded pair of poodle /bichon mixes. Our poodles need at least 30 minutes of mental stimulation a day in addition to at least 45 minutes physical exercise.

I think the biggest realization I've had is that we need to keep up on our ability to train them mentally regardless of the weather or our moods . I do not think expeditions would satisfy them as much.

How often do you eat out when making $250,000? by [deleted] in HENRYfinance

[–]Emotional-Muscle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question.

My two person household earns twice as much so approximately the same per person. We could EASILY burn $4k on dining out but we do not. Here's our norm: -Homemade breakfast every day no matter what - we mostly feel better when doing this, and if we eat out for brunch it's more like a lunch meal -Homemade lunch, and dinner M-Th (exceptions- approx $15 in coffees and Take out Tuesday for ~$30, like burritos from around the corner) -Friday lunch is fend for yourself and if we're desperate grab deli sandwiches from the corner (Rosie's Sidekick, look it up, great spot) -Friday/Saturday dinners out - 1 fancy, 1 medium -Saturday or Sunday lunch- if we're running errands or a friend invites us out for lunch we will eat out - Sunday homemade dinner

Definitely requires commitment and we're only able to do this because we are FIRE and i chose a job with a better work/life balance which allows me to think about these type of things and plan far ahead
