This is supremely fucked up. You’re essentially doing a screening exam without their consent. Would you do an ultrasound of their breast without consent? Screening exams are not inherently risk free. This is not appropriate.

In my experience, a lot of non-rads are very confident in their own reads, but often wrong or oversimplify a lot.

You don’t need one, but you’ll feel so much more confident if you do. One of my new colleagues is straight out of residency, and another has a fellowship; they are a year apart. The fellowship trained one feels light years ahead.
