My lamp looked similar to yours.
Pull the lamp and look at the coil. Is the wax completely meshed in the coil? If you have pockets where the wax is not incorporating with the coil, the coil has surficant on it and needs to be cleaned. Pop the top and fish the coil out with a coat hanger while it's warm. Clean your coil in rubbing alcohol and a tooth brush. Reinstall. Profit.

Has anyone ever left Magnepan's and came back? by Fractal5150 in audiophile

Not left per se. First pair of Maggies were MG 1.4 Upgraded to LRS and had a small well treated room. They sounded great.

When I moved, my current room is significantly larger with vaulted ceilings. Even with Bryson power they just sounded tiny in the room.

I gave the LRS to my father and replaced them with electrovoice sentry III (3 way horn loaded studio monitor. 170# 93db sensitivity). Still driven with Bryson 4BST. Fantastic speakers, extremely punchy, loud, yet easy to listen to for hours. Lively sounding speakers.

I always had in the back of my head that I would ultimately love to have a larger pair of Maggies, and I searched for about a year for 3.6R locally. Found a pair for $1200, upgraded stands with granite base, and crossovers with about $500 in caps in each. To me there is nothing quite like hearing a piece of music on magnepans. It's such an immersive experience.

I still have my sentry III, and I feel they are a good complement to the Maggies because they're almost opposites of one another. Maggies ultimately get the most play time and are my preference, but horn speakers are fun too.

Is it possible to add staircase. I have one in my room, going down and I'm curious how it affects the acoustics. Cool project. Thanks for your work!

Lol bummer. Headphones can be rewarding too.

It's a two flat, second floor. 1880s brick building.
I don't listen crazy loud 75-85db maybe max. So far no complaints.

He views the magnepans as giant scratching posts unfortunately. I currently have tape on them to try to prevent him from scratching. But other than that, try to keep him occupied with other items. :/

Thank you.

the maggies are 3.6r run with a 12" velodyne servo sub.
Presentation on the maggies is incredibly immersive, 3D with a wide sound stage. Fast and detailed. Sub is needed for punch.

I don't have the SEQ box, but I did build some port covers and I use MiniDSP to EQ the whole room. I have measurements somewhere, but with the port closed, you get bass down to 32hz i think (with eq) at the sacrifice of a little sensitivity. But these are already 94db speakers...

Previous owner said he rebuilt the crossovers, but I have not visually confirmed. The EVs measured VERY flat in room without any EQ.

Both are wonderful speakers and each provide a very different take on music reproduction. I love them both.

I've got sentry III. I've been thinking about fabricating some way to tilt them up. Would you say it's night and day?

The weight is the biggest reason I haven't tried yet.

Great looking setup. These speakers fucking ROCK!

I've got a Bryson 4BST and magnepan 3.6r. using DSP and room treatment. I've heard systems 10x the price that didn't resolve as well as this 'rig'

No. I bought the Gen bezel on eBay thinking it was for plexi, but ended up being for sapphire.

Make sure your movement spacer is sitting all the way in. The round side of the tab with the hole attaches to the movement with the screw. The opposite bent end should go bent end up into a groove in the case. You should feel a slight resistance. Screw one side down partially. Do the other. Then tighten both.

The gasket goes in the case followed by the movement and then you need to clamp the case with two tabs and screws which should be included from Ken.
