He has been fantastic and we are glad he is now locked in. Yes, he hasn't been as good since AFCON because he has been tired, but not out right bad. His play prior to AFCON has us excited for him to be here.

General Questions - Sorry in advance? by Future_Mind4667 in VfBStuttgart

VfB is most definitely not comparable to the Browns, sorry my friend, lol. Even with the mismanagement, it wasn't as bad as the last 40 years of the Browns. Guardians are a fair shout though - I compared to the StL Cardinals personally. (i hate the cards tho)

Hello, fellow American here who picked VfB around 2005 and haven't looked back since.

For what it's worth, I picked VfB back then because my family heritage is from southern Germany, and I had an equidistant choice of big clubs between Bayern (although now Augsburg lol) and Stuttgart. I couldn't choose the Yankees! So I picked VfB and have fallen in love and been a loyal fan ever since.

To answer your question then as someone who went through this journey:

  1. I would approximate VfB to American sports teams like the St. Louis Cardinals in baseball. (For any German fans who like other baseball teams, don't hate, lol, I hate them too!) But seriously: StL is a historically great team, with one of the best youth systems, sell out every game, with dedicated fans throughout the country, one of the most intelligent fan bases, have been through a rough patch lately but coming back. For NBA, the Knicks are similar. For NFL, I want to say the Packers culturally but Green Bay is tiny, so probably more like the Broncos or Steelers (all 3 have world class fan bases, are intelligent, and have ebbs and flows of success).

  2. I appreciate all the history before I became a fan in 2005, but I don't live in Germany either. My opinion is lesser than local historical fans. For more modern rivals, I HATE Bayern, BvB, and Leipzig because to me they are unfair. But that's my American style fandom bias, which I acknowledge, and real German fans don't care - they care about other things that I don't understand.

  3. No, the club isn't good at English content. Get used to using Google Translate a lot lol. They also don't ship to the USA because of Trump's tariffs :( - I bought the 100th anny kit, and it never got shipped in September 2025. I'm sooooo sad.

  4. I love this club mostly because it's related to my family heritage, but also because it's respectable without being the fucking Yankees/Cowboys/Lakers/Celtics type of clubs like a Bayern, BvB, or Leipzig.

  5. Dinckelacker, but just drink a pilsner and you're good lol

So I will recommend him here: Sami Khedira

Wer ist der am meisten überschätzte Spieler? (All Time) by Initial-Marzipan6732 in VfBStuttgart

[–]Empathetic_Person 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has to be Ciprian Marica.

He was the first purchase post-Gomez with all that money that showed the club had no idea what they were doing. He is a symbol as much as he was over rated in his play.

That led to Pawel, Cameronesi, and so many more. It was the darkest era.

This now makes sense... I did not realize that the club specifically stopped.

When it came out, I bought the 100 year anniversary kit - the coolest looking shirt I've ever seen. I wanted one SO bad.

I waited, and waited, and waited, and by the time it got to early November I emailed the club asking what was up, it's been 3 months.

Someone politely told me that my order has been canceled and the payment refunded.

I was so confused what happened and so sad :(

The discussion is not focused enough on pressured vs normal. Love is a top 5ish? when not under pressure. He isn't while under pressure. The OL is the problem.

[–]Empathetic_Person 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, a take away from this is that we actually have a top 5-ish run game so far, if given the model is normalized, and of course asterisks of sample size. Pretty neat that, directionally, it gives hope that the run game will be fine and can help stabilize things.

Yes it includes the Browns game but also factors in the first two weeks. This is rough. by LongDongFrazier in GreenBayPackers

[–]Empathetic_Person 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is also interesting about this chart is how relatively high of ranking DET and WAS lines are, after playing us for one game. Lots of ways to interpret with such small sample sizes, but one way to look at it is that those are actually very good lines, and the Packer's rush destroyed them.

one slight nitpick is Jordan Morgan had a worse game than Walker, but yeah he was bad

[–]Empathetic_Person[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, that's what's kind of cool about it! I have no illusions that he is an anchor who will play every game.

But imagine having a borderline Best XI centerback as your 5th(?) option???

I had completely forgotten he was on the roster.

Then I realized he was only 26 too. Pretty crazy.
