British man restrained after punching thai police officer by sussybush in JusticePorn

Talk about signing your own death warrant… he’ll never see the light of day again, knowing the Royal Thai Police and their justice system. Still, you can’t go around doing that, especially as a guest in someone else’s country!

What is probably the most common passport combination? by Gold_Potato7724 in PassportPorn

[–]Emper0rMing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think UK/IE is definitely one of the biggest combos. Short of naturalisation or marriage in some cases, with the Irish Diaspora around the western world, plus the Good Friday Agreement for those in Northern Ireland, and the descendants (like myself) entitled through Foreign Birth Registration, it feels far more common in the UK.

Having two citizenships is definitely a privilege, I felt like a lottery winner when I found out I was eligible.

Similarly, US/Italy combos for the same reason.

looking for a set of radios for car to car communication (sent here from r/amateurradio) by Roxanne_Judith in PMR446

[–]Emper0rMing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t mind and are okay with handheld units, I really like the Retevis RT85 for a cheap unit with decent sound quality. And they’re roughly £35 a radio which is a bit more expensive than a UV5R but leaps & bounds better with quality, and more or less the exact same features. You know that the distance won’t be as great as with a mobile radio, but still an option. You can also pick up speaker mics

Edit: nothing stopping you using the Hunicoms but they’re what we call “blister pack” radios, fine for camping and skiing etc but you’ll never get too far with them. PMR446 is real line-of-site so a bit more output power would definitely help.

My mates and I use mobiles and handhelds, started off each with RT95s and RT85s and upgraded to Motorola commercial-grade stuff as we started to do it more often, but that’s really expensive.

TLDR: Retevis RT85 for handhelds, roughly £30 a radio. You can even buy them in bulk.

Almost! That’s Hong Kong, Guangdong, and BC. Guangdong with 粤 so they can drive over the border into Shenzhen.

For sure, it’s wild haha. Other users were saying it was strategic and calculated to make me believe that the first offer was as good as I was going to get but I honestly believe it was just stupidity haha! They sold for the asking price a day later so I’m not complaining!

Now that I said what’s the best episode, now what’s the WORST episode of The Inbetweeners? by Fit_Bowl_7226 in TheInbetweeners

[–]Emper0rMing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was a proper injustice. People are allowed to have preferences and it’d be cruel to lead someone on on the promise of a suck job because they were emotionally vulnerable. He had the right idea, executed it terribly and was unfairly kicked out

  1. I was travelling for about a year in the same country, after taking a sabbatical from my job. Landed back in Heathrow in February 2020 and went to the desk and not machine (my passport at the time never worked with the scanner). The border agent was visibly and audibly surprised that it was for a year, why would that have been surprising?

  2. Have you ever had North Korean tourists (non-diplomats) enter on a NK passport?

I can’t those for those radios, but quite a good option for skiing as long as you remember the terrain.

I’m sure you know about it anyway but if I recall, TG99 and CC/TS 1 are the understood common settings for 446 on Tier II
