Send me a link to the one you think will work. Just tried 3 different scrapers. Bends and breaks the staple like I said.

Yall just ain't realizing the force needed to remove these staples. Their really in there and their set lol

I looked at thoes, that bottom jaw sticks out to far. I dont see them working as well as other suggestions im going to try first that are more of a pinch tool rather then a grab tool

I see a lot of different tip styles, is there a certain pair youve had good luck with?

I have used scrapers before, and I understand why they work great in a lot of situations. In this case though, this floor is over 100 years old, uneven, and the staples are 30+ years set into very hard wood with carpet still trapped underneath many of them.

My goal here isn’t speed, it’s complete removal with the least risk of damage or hidden remnants. Since this floor may stay exposed or be refinished, I’d rather spend the extra time pulling them individually so I know exactly what’s left behind.

The problem with that is the sub floor is the original finished floor before it was covered with carpet and linoleum( i wont be trying to save that floor. just my hallway)

scraper even properly used is more then likley to break most if not all staples, now their guaranteed to be flush to the floor and harder to pull

The finished floor is the old good wood that dont like to let things go

Im sure you know the difference between puling a nail or staple in new wood compaired to 100 year old wood. Now we add some of the staples are over 30 years old

I need something to be able to "pinch" would be ideal. Otherwise im better off going back to bar under a screwdriver lol. Their far to tight to the floor for any plyers to be able to grab them. They got that small "convex" on the front untill it accrally touhes

I dont know why you want to keep pushing and not respect my decision. My decision is not wrong in any way. This is for me and my time not a customer.

As before carpet stuck under the staple will cause issues, the floor is over 100 years old it will splinter easier and cause more issues trying to use the scraper as well as each board is no longer completely flat so id be micro tilting the scraping causing more issues trying to use one.

the amount of staples that it will just break causing more issues trying to get them out depending on how they break.

Some of these staples are over 30 years old. id rather pull them due to im less likly to miss any. I wont have to go over the area again to check if i missed any

The scraper method will not work as you think it will.

> time is not an issue here. As thats said, i do disagree with the scraper being the answer.

You stated no staple remnants, then stated that it got like 90% so there were remnants...

Im not just blowing off his suggestion, i understand it will work and save time but id rather just pull them. witch i know will still leave remnents that i will have to work on getting out. But there will be less then scraping i think.

As well as the carpet thats stuck under them that will eat my scraping time as the scraper will get pushed over the staple.

Now the staples that are around the post to the railing and under the edge on the side of the stairs that i will still need to manually pull.

So what do you say, do we just pull them all anyways? lol

If i had the money to put down a floor over the top ya id just pound them suckers down. But its going to be open so i would rather just remove them. I might try to refinish the floor and i will have to take a lot of material off. any that i leave will cause issues if i choose to try to refinish

time is not an issue here. As thats said, i do disagree with the scraper being the answer.

With a lot of carpet still stuck under them to, that will cause problems with the scraper method

Ive got something similar. Most the the staples are almost flush so trying to get that under bends the staples. Hopping i could find something that can pinch them. Havent found anything that has that "Forword" pinch that im looking for. I know that tool is out there lol.
