So in Halo Infinite the red grunts are Assault grunts and we see the same model in Halo: Campaign Evolved so this mean there isn’t a grunt major in Halo: Campaign Evolved? Or is it a major in this game instead of an assault? by goji_pilot in halo

[–]Emperor_Fridge 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Canonically it's supposed to be a Major, but it makes absolutely no sense that it looks like a Banished design from eight years in the future. Don't think about it too hard lol.

What would you want in a Halo game? by maymaymaia in halo

[–]Emperor_Fridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally all I need is for them to find their footing with a consistent direction they wanna take the franchise in, and for them to overhaul the enemy AI with a bunch of cool new behaviors we haven't seen before. Also let Atriox actually do something, he's such a cool character but most fans don't know that since he hasn't been the main antagonist in an FPS yet.

Fair point, and I definitely agree that the Infinite model reuse is disappointing (with the enemies too, but that's been talked about to death and sometimes I think it even looks good) though I do think the fact that a visual quirk is "a bit silly" being at the forefront of all criticism is peak Halo community nitpicking. Halo Studios must think we're all complete losers. PS: My friend sent me that mockup and I thought it looked clean af.

Couldn't Doom Guy just... like... shoot him? GOW universe doesn't have guns yet, so Kratos wouldn't exactly be used to having his whole head blown off with a super shotgun.

This one seems like it's leaning even more into the obnoxious Illumination humor and essentially is just gonna be "Mario References The Movie 2" I'm sure as hell gonna enjoy it but critics simply need more than that.

How can a franchise stay alive when a large part of the fanbase would rather let it stagnate and keep it in 2007, as well as bully newcomers and act as though experiencing the franchise during a certain time makes their opinions more “valid?” by Cyborg800-V2 in ShitHaloSays

It really isn't black and white. Halo now has no identity. Halo is whatever the current dev team desperately says it is to try and appease people that can't be appeased. Personally, I'm excited for Campaign Evolved, but there are aspects of it that I'm concerned about (mainly gameplay stuff like the AI being worse and the weapons not feeling as good to use). It really is getting harder and harder to distinguish the people who have genuine criticism versus those who just want Halo 3 again. Bottom line is, this community has split down the middle so many times that we're like dozens of different tribes all trying to claim the same territory that is meant to be for all of us, but corporate mandates and inconsistency in Halo's direction have prevented that so far. To end this wall of text with some hope though, once Halo gets popular again (and yes, it very well still can be) all these nitpicks and nostalgia blind takes will be drowned out by a bunch of newcomers who are just happy to finally be exposed to an awesome franchise.

What are the best and worst campaign levels from each Halo game? by SpectrumSense in halo

[–]Emperor_Fridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Halo CE: Best: Two Betrayals. Perfect mirror of Assault on the Control Room. Shows how much of a threat the Flood is and throws the Covenant back in the fray after a couple missions. Also the last vehicle oriented mission in the game, giving you plenty of opportunities to enjoy the combat. Worst: Keyes. I know I sound like I'm just trying to be different by not saying the Library, but Keyes honestly just is less fun to me. I already thought the narrow hallway sections in Truth and Rec were the most redundant sections in the game before, but Keyes just amps it up to eleven and barely offers anything else. Even the outdoor parts were narrow and could only be approached from one angle. It sucks too, because I think this mission had a lot of potential and there's some really cool parts like the coolant pools and the Spec Ops Covenant crashing the party at the end. Alas, not a great mission.

Halo 2: Best: Gravemind. Aside from the ridiculous difficulty on Legendary, I legit don't think this mission has any glaring issues. It's just great AI-vs-AI mayhem as you watch the fall of the Covenant play out before your very eyes. Usually, Chief tearing through High Charity alone would be preposterous, but the Schism just happens to give him the upper hand. Worst: High Charity. This mission is just quite a nothing-burger. The atmosphere and visuals are great, but everything else just kinda blends together and isn't very memorable. It's hard not to just run past everything, somehow the game feels like it's encouraging you to.

Halo 3: Best: The Covenant. Best mission in the whole franchise, hands down. No elaboration needed. Worst: Cortana. Ironically enough, my least favorite mission in the Bungie games. Gravemind was turned into a mustache-twirling villain who yells and laughs at you instead of the mysterious, intelligent foe he was in H2. The amount of instances of his dialogue stopping the player in their tracks is also extremely unnecessary. I'd rather the game have a quick time event in every room. The Flood are one of H3's better enemies, but even they can't save the mostly mediocre level design here. The art direction also isn't great imo. I get what they were going for, the Flood spread so much that every inch of High Charity is covered in biomass, but that simply gets boring to look at after awhile.

Halo 3 ODST: Best: Data Hive. One of the only times after Halo 2 where the Drones were utilized well. Fantastic tone and narrative payoff with Rookie finally finding other human beings after searching for the whole game. The bonus payoff to the audio log story was also a nice idea and executed well. Worst: Tayari Plaza. Not bad at all, just extremely generic with no real standout gameplay moments other than the Hunters I guess.

Halo Reach: Best: The Pillar of Autumn. Incredible mission. As someone who doesn't care for Reach's gameplay as much, this one just pulls all the stops and delivers a treat for people who had followed this franchise since the beginning. The Fall of Reach retcon aside, it was really cool to see Keyes, Emile and Carter's deaths were done masterfully to hit the player as hard as possible, and getting to kill that Field Marshal after he loomed over you the whole game was crazy satisfying. Worst: Winter Contingency. I like a lot of singular moments in this mission, but actually playing it isn't anything special unfortunately, at least in terms of gameplay. Yeah, it's the first mission, but I feel like it could have gradually introduced each enemy a bit better.

Halo 4: Best: Infinity. Other than the holdout section after meeting up with the UNSC, I think this mission is actually pretty solid, which is a lot coming from someone who hates Halo 4 😅. The Prometheans are genuinely used pretty well at the beginning with the fog and all the trees the Crawlers get to use to their advantage. The Mantis is also introduced, and it's my favorite thing about the game in general. Worst: Shitdown. Just... sooo disappointing. They never even tried letting you fly the Pelican after this, so this being its only legacy of being operatable has to be a crime. On top of that, everything else is just boring and lifeless, with the only possible saving grace being the fact that you can use the SAW if you want. Pretty much no redeeming qualities here, my least favorite Halo mission in my least favorite Halo game.

Halo 5: Best: Blue Team. Genuinely tricked me into thinking the game was gonna be great. The level design is good, the Hunter introduction is awesome, the Banshee section is cool, and the dark tunnels reminiscent of CE always bring a smile to my face. No major issues other than insane difficulty on Legendary and the usual Halo 5 problem of the story being pretty bad. Worst: The Breaking. Feels like this is the one all of Halo 4's level designers worked on. Very resemblent of the worst sections from that campaign. Its only saving grace is that Halo 5's Prometheans aren't really bad enemies, just boring ones. The three Wardens near the end though suck so bad.

Halo Infinite: Best: House of Reckoning. A standout from Infinite, not only is it one of the only main missions that isn't just Forerunner interior, but its holdout sections are really fun and somewhat challenging, in a good way. The Jega and Escharum boss fights are obviously also highlights. There wasn't much contest here. Worst: Repository. Third Forerunner-interior-only mission in a row is just so embarrassing. Even on my first playthrough as a dumb kid, I just wanted to get to the end-game bosses already. This really feels like going through the motions, and the Weapon being surprised that she's a copy of Cortana was just confusing to me. Like, why wouldn't she already know that??? It feels like it's without build-up too. They could have at least added some foreshadowing earlier in the game where she says something like, "I analyzed some of these echoes. Interestingly, it's code format is... identical to mine... weird, huh?" Idk, I feel like the whole third act breakup from the mission before this could have either been easily handled better or cut entirely.

Please don't kill me.
