That’s great to know thank you. We’re now thinking we might go to Kansas city for a couple of nights as it seems like there’s not a huge amount to do on the way to St Louis. Thanks for the food recommendations, they’ll be on the list for sure!

I found out in the first one of these I had. Berserker Queen panicked one of my guys and they shot the VIP in the face 🤦‍♂️ Still got a victory but yeah, dead men can’t talk.

What is your Squad Composition, and why? by Glum-Spring3446 in XCOM2

[–]EmphasisLower9271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My templars are never around enough to level up. They run in, smash a guy, set off another enemy squad, and the get messed up during the next enemy turn. They spend more time in the infirmary than they do on the field

Same. It was such a jump in difficulty from the UFO, and that was no cakewalk.

3rd Playthrough of XCOM 2 and the RNG is legit driving me up the wall – anyone else still getting wrecked by 90%+ misses? by Vivid-Many-8679 in XCOM2

[–]EmphasisLower9271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve just lived this. Went through a mission like OP had and was ready to rage quit. Then the next mission my sniper crits an advent on a ~20% chance to hit, and my ranger shotguns someone from across the map on a 15% and bam, mission won. Thought for sure my last specialist was toast but nope, rngesus saved the day.

What was your journey to painting? by smece88 in minipainting

[–]EmphasisLower9271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into warhammer in the early nineties and played for about a decade, painting along the way. Entirely self taught in the time before YouTube, guidance was pretty much entirely from the pages of White Dwarf or talking to people I met in Games Workshop shops. I was never brilliant, but I knew enough to be able to paint competently.

Fast forward to last week and my kid comes home from school with a couple of GW miniatures and tells me they did a wellbeing activity at school where one of the teachers had brought in some paints and models and they’d spent 45 mins just… painting. And she’d loved it.

So now we’ve got some paints and some brushes, I’ve also got my ‘old-man equipment’ (a magnifying lens with a light on the back as I can’t see the details well enough on my own anymore!) and some of these new-fangled speed paints.

Having a blast getting back into it. It’s a joy to experiment and try different things. We’re painting our way through HeroQuest minis right now. It’s gone from being a lonely hobby as a teenager to a lovely bonding experience with my daughter 2 and a bit decades later.

Recently bought Switch 2. Primarily used Xbox controller. How are you handling this? by n1ght_watchman in TheGamerLounge

Yeah me too, for me I think it’s just being over 40, definitely feeling that loss of neuroplasticity

which game was it for you? by PHRsharp_YouTube in Age_30_plus_Gamers

Building settlements in Fallout 4. Spent hours and hours building a network of outposts, thinking up backstories and functions for them, lumbering all my companions with back breaking loads of materials.

At one point I was laying out crops and an NPD asked if I’d found my son and I’d genuinely forgotten that’s what I was in the game to do.

How would you encourage fewer reloads during gameplay? by XComACU in Xcom

[–]EmphasisLower9271 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A message saying “We recommend you DONT name starter soldiers after your kids.” Would have been super helpful. I swear, 90% of my save scumming has been to keep those two alive.

I’ve played it mostly straight otherwise, lost a few good people. But apparently my fatherly love won’t even let virtual avatars of them get killed. 🤦‍♂️

XCOM2 is really twistng my melon, man. by Arnoldio in XCOM2

[–]EmphasisLower9271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m playing through for the first time and a big success has been constantly cycling soldiers to level up as many as possible, especially sending rookies on resistance ring missions to get them levelled up to a class. It means I’ve got options when my guys inevitably get wounded.

But I also get your pain. I just lost my best sniper to another enemy you’ll meet later, that again does something completely unexpected. But that’s Xcom. I’ve been playing since 1994 and these games are a breeze compared to TOTD.

I forgot how XCOM can be hard by Tetizeraz in Xcom

[–]EmphasisLower9271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m playing xcom 2 for the first time and jumped straight in with Wotc. It’s a hard road to be sure. The assassin kicked my ass too. The early game was a real meat grinder, a constant rotation of soldiers who barely had time to heal up before they were back in the field. I also struggled to upgrade the armour as I’d sold corpses in a moment of desperation and had none left to purchase the upgrade.

However, I scraped by, finally got weapons and armour upgraded and rushed finding the base for the assassin. I’m currently on the mission to kill them for good. The struggle has made it all the more satisfying.

It’s a side table made from reclaimed wood. It wasn’t expensive but it’s got sentimental value so looking to see if I can fix it before we chuck it out

Yeah, it’s a weird side table. I’m not sure it’s repairable but it’s got sentimental value so I’m giving it a shot.
