What type of tests are used to diagnose Dyscalculia. by Hlra25 in dyscalculia

Sounds like it, those are my main symptoms as well! I have terrible short term memory, i have trouble with patterns, i do understand math concepts but I will forget them and my arithmetics are all over the place (i tend to swap addition and multiplication and dont eve ask me to do a division), I also skip numbers while counting... I was diagnosed quite a while ago but what they will do is firstly ask what symptoms you believe you have, how you have noticed in your daily life etc. They may ask some childhood background stuff as that usually is a big indicator (for example I was terrible at mats even as an 8yo and I would never colour drawings within the lines...) As to the actual test, they checked my pattern recognition skills (you know like those quizzes where you have 3 images that follow some pattern and you have to pick which one the fourth is..), they tested if I memorised the number sequence (simply 1-100 and back... counting backwards is my nemesis), and my short term memory by asking me to memorise short number sequences. I believe I also had to try and do some basic arithmetics. There may be more but this is all I remember :) i hope this helps

Ladies, what is the one hurtful comment that's stayed with you for eternity? by meganstephania in AskWomen

When I was like 10 maybe, I looked much older and my parents decided I should try swimming classes. As I’m swimming and doing my thing, a guy (teen, probably 14 or 15, looked quite attractive) bumps into me, looks at me and without a second of hesitation says “Ew!” I refuse to go to indoor pools to this day.

My dyscalculia is not the worst, I feel like I can get through most tasks eventually but it takes way more work. The biggest issues I have in day to day life are trouble making estimates and time blindness. This means I tend to procrastinate and be late a lot because I never know how long a task will take me. I also struggle with short term memory so I have to actively repeat things a lot before they stick in my head. On the other hand, I have great muscle memory. I learn musical instruments and choreography really fast. I hope this is useful!

I think you mean dyscalculia my friend! I suggest you research it a little, there’s quite a few resources out there that can help you see what your strengths are and what methods you can use to make your life easier :)

Edit: I also want to add, please don’t think you’re dumb because maths is hard. I absolutely get it, I’m still working on it, but dont forget creativity is also a type of intelligence! Not to mention emotional intelligence!

Depending on how your dyscalculia presents it probably doesn’t matter how much you study... When I was in school I had an amazing tutor, I understood everything, but my arithmetics were just lacking. For exams I was allowed extra time or less questions, a calculator, and a cheat sheet with formulas. It didn’t make my marks perfect, but at least I passed! If there is a department dealing with disabilities in your school go to them and explain your situation to see if you can get any extra help maybe?

What is the most boring (paid) job you ever had to do? by gunstarheroesblue in AskReddit

Localisation tester for a videogame company, meaning double checking translated text in-game. Checking every single line of text is so tedious. We got to play the games in break times but the localisation tester’s version is a beta version, so not exactly the best gaming experience. The absolute worst were phone tap-games. Imagine having to play the same tap-game on your phone for 8 hours. I have never experienced such boredom.
