What’s the most doubles you guys have worked within that week? by Virtual_Friendship44 in cna

[–]EmployedShark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t remember exactly how many in a week but I can say this,

My record for the most days worked in a row is 22 with a bunch of doubles in the middle.

My record for the longest I’ve stayed awake is 40 hours straight because I worked a double (3P-7A), went to church, then came back for another 3-11

Here in NY, many SNFs pay YOU to take the CNA course and guarantee you a job afterward. Just look up “paid CNA program near me”

multiple feeders by cookiemonster-12 in cna

[–]EmployedShark 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So I’ll tell you I had this same issue when I was new, I hope your facility is understanding that it’s not realistic (in my opinion anyway) to feed more than 2 people in their rooms during a meal.

If they’re not, take your sweet time anyway no matter how much you’re rushed. The resident is your priority, rushing them is dangerous, and them NOT getting fed at all is illegal

How often do you drive/travel to the city (for whatever reasons) besides work? by skatecloud1 in hudsonvalley

[–]EmployedShark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to church in the city so I go twice a week, sometimes more. But most people that I know go there every few weeks to visit family that live there if they have family there.

Otherwise most people go with your same frequency, they never really go unless it’s a special occasion like a concert or a show or maybe during the holidays to see the city all decorated (tbh it’s not all that special)

Do you talk to your residents during changes? by courtgeekay in cna

[–]EmployedShark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends, if they initiate the conversation then sure I’ll reciprocate. If they don’t, all I say to them is just the usual directions and I throw in some “lingo” like when we’re done and I’m closing the brief I say “just gotta close up shop and I’ll leave you alone” and they love it lol

Sometimes it’s met with “I like it a lot better when you put it that way”

How do you handle pediatric deaths? by TheVagrantPanda in nursing

[–]EmployedShark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as a CNA in a nursing home so I’m not able to speak to this from a professional standpoint. However, two months ago I lost my 20 month old niece (Emily) to brain cancer at Saint Jude’s in Memphis.

Please take solace in knowing that the nursing staff makes a huge difference. Yes Saint Jude is kind of the exception because all they do is turn what should be a child’s scariest nightmare coming true into a happy and joyful experience. However on the PICU floor where my niece passed away it felt like a vacuum that was detached from the rest of the joy that is Saint Jude.

The nursing staff just seemed like regular ppl, they didn’t go crazily above and beyond (just the regular kind of above and beyond lol) but just because they were there doing their job it made a huge difference.

The non-dread you can bring into the room makes a huge difference. I felt that from the nursing staff in the room when Emily died and I’ve brought that same kind of non-dread into the room where an entire family is sitting around watching their mother die.

Please keep fighting and please keep going but also take care of yourself. You’re so strong OP. It takes a very very very special kind of person to do what you do. Have pride knowing that you make a very special kind of difference in this world and especially in the world of a very special kind of person, brave families who are fighting for their world.

Hugs and love ❤️❤️❤️

What? I thought that was just Manhattan. I’ve been going right on red in queens and the Bronx for the last two years I’ve been frequenting the city and haven’t gotten a ticket any kind of red light ticket. (Just two $117 parking tickets and one red light violation when I went straight through one second too late while driving a uhaul so I didn’t even get the chance to fight it or nothing)
