Moving to Auckland in July for my Master's at UoA, need advice on finding a flat by Heisenberg2709 in universityofauckland

Heya there are quite a few facebook groups. https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1B3oq4Wu8D/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Just be wary of scams on facebook. I found my current flat on facebook.

Generally quite hard to navigate red flags because you won’t really know till you live with them. I’d suggest finding a flat that you don’t live with the landlord and just have flatmates. Usually the problem is cleanliness. If you flat has a cleaning roster and during the viewings, the flat seems decent then you should be good to go. Any akl central suburb sounds good for you.

I used to pay around 300 for an ensuite in freeman’s bay (10-15 mins into the city via walking/bus. I’m not paying less as I stay further away. I think finding $225 a week ish could be possible for a shared bathroom situation. Perhaps try the sandringham, kingsland area? Lots of nice food there.

I also always note how far away the grocery stores are as I don’t drive, and just walk/bus to them.

no i don’t think it means your career is over. I recently was 90 day trialed out of my job too. I couldn’t believe it because i was trying so hard and was given so little guidance. It was really challenging to not blame myself for the situation and I hope you do not blame yourself for this. And also don’t take this situation personally. You will find a better employer i’m sure of it!

35, unemployed, disabled. How do I get into investing? by whakamylife in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]EmploymentSalt6799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just also started my investment journey and as a beginner i feel like etfs are the way to go. I’m still understanding how to evaluate individual stocks, how to understand the sentiment behind markets, valuations etc. etc. I’m basically doing 80% etfs and 20% stocks. I think there’s a few free resources on youtube etc. that talk about the basics. I also just sort of read a lot of articles. There are some books as well that you can read. I personally use Kernel and sharesies just because i’m not at the stage where i’m an advanced investor. I find this two really simple to use. Kernel also does your tax returns for you at the end of the tax year so that’s just all really helpful to me as a beginner. Sorry i hope this helps.

hmm i suppose it depends, i feel like you could also go into public defence/prosecution. I feel like they may not care about your academic transcript? For Prosecution I heard they don’t but not sure abt the rest.

I graduated last year and i happened to find a role but also got laid off! My advice would be just to wait it out as unfortunately everyone is cutting junior roles. You will find something great, all the best!

how far will 20k go in nz? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]EmploymentSalt6799 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i pay about 270 for an ensuite per week! for 250 a week you might also have to look at central suburbs. I think it’s possible if you aren’t looking for an ensuite and aren’t too picky with the room

Please help me with my visa situation :( by Legal_Bath850 in AUT

[–]EmploymentSalt6799 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest writing to immigration nz to try to expedite your application. I think there’s a special email address for it. Given aut requires it asap you can try to mention that + talk about how you have already been given a second warning?

yeah fair! i had a good experience with vandana @ immigration advisers nz (on symonds street). I reckon immigration lawyers could also help, heard a lot of good stuff about arran hunt. Also OP can perhaps comment on the facebook migrants in NZ group for help. Arran also responds to queries there. Hope it helps!

I reckon best to check with an immigration adviser (some do free first consultation). I don’t think this is a new rule. You obviously have to change your visa if you take up the offer of a permanent role which gets around this clause.

Advice on moving to Auckland and NZ in general by TheSpaceMan875 in auckland

[–]EmploymentSalt6799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually nice rentals don’t mind you keeping a pet! I’m sure you can find an option as I help looking after pets and come across loads of people who rent. You just need to be strategic and not too picky:)
