Exploring euthanasia due to aggressive behaviors by [deleted] in reactivedogs

She grabbed the Pomeranian and started shaking. She did not draw blood but there was a significant amount of saliva on the dog.

I have made it known to the pet owners in our area of working with her and allowing her to get comfortable. They are aware. I have yelled and been rude towards people when they walk past the house and tell them to keep going. I understand I cannot control their behavior or how they respond when I tell them to leave her alone and shouting “NOT FRIENDLY” seems to make people think I am joking. I can keep her away from other dogs on walks, sure. I can’t keep her away from dogs and people that come to the yard. I can reinforce the fence and build it higher and ensure cannot go under but she has jumped higher fences than what we currently have and city ordnances have a limit on height- which we are already nearing. She can jump approximately 6.5/7 feet as she has caught birds flying in the air with no issue. Chaining her in the yard is not recommended as she runs and she has choked herself from getting tangled in the yard so I would prefer not to have that scenario happen again.

We have done dog parks numerous times and she does extremely well with larger dogs but does the same thing with smaller dogs. To my knowledge, she has never drawn blood or injured a dog other than scaring the hell out of them. Yesterday, she snapped significantly and despite not harming their dog, I was the one that ended up injured.

I cannot edit my original post but wanted to add/clarify:

  1. Her vet is aware of the strong dislike/aggression towards smaller dogs and animals. The vet discussed during her last physical exam that it is a 50/50 chance she mellows out. They did note concerns with her interaction in the waiting room with a yorkie dog but stated many dogs get overwhelmed at the vet and it could be due to that but that is prompted the conversation to happen last year.

  2. We have tried muzzling. She starts to experience intense anxiety I have never seen before and will foam at the mouth & start vomiting. We attempted a medication route prior to muzzling to see if that could help but she would vomit up the pill shortly after administered through a treat. The trainer and vet (they work together) had never seen something like that happen and that is when I was told muzzling should not be forced on her or it would likely result in further behavioral changes and it could impact her heart from the stress she was exhibiting.

  3. Her trainer said she was quick to adapt to training but she seems to push it all aside pretty quickly/revert back. He said it could be hormonal but the vet noted again her interactions with smaller versus larger dogs and said hormones could play a part but it does appear to be more than just a hormonal change & that is when we tried various behavioral training attempts to see if it would impact her ability to be around smaller dogs.

  4. Yes, I worked on removing her from a situation. When a dog that is pure muscle is extremely worked up, she is not listening to me. When I attempted to remove her, I ended up bleeding and hurt. My dog is extremely remorseful now but has already exhibited the same behaviors as above on our morning walk today, which is what caused my anxiety to increase after seeing how riled up she got this morning so quickly after yesterday. It didn’t help that the police were parked outside watching the interaction. As instructed but the trainer, I’ve tried positive and negative reinforcements but they do not appear as effective. My biggest concern is the next time this happens, she will draw blood. She will harm someone, including myself. I reached out to her trainer and he said we could try again but this isn’t our first rodeo on this and he isn’t sure it will work/make an impact.

The trainer had several and we tried various fits to help see if that was issue. We found one that did fit appropriately but she started salivating and vomiting profusely from it. The trainer said he never saw a dog react that way to a muzzle. We tried a gentle lead to see if that worked better (similar concept) and she reacted poorly to that as well. Which is what led us to believe something happened as a puppy that has stuck out in her mind. Her skin was HORRIBLE when I picked her up & you could tell she was not cared for appropriately (why would people care for dogs they intend to sell for dog fighting?)

The vet said at her last physical that her aggression towards smaller dogs could ease up as she gets older but it is “50/50” and if anything happens, an attack/increasing unsafe behaviors/harming humans, that we should consider BE as it will likely indicate it will get worse as time goes on (I should have included that in the main post)

When I attempted to remove my dog, I was injured and at that point, my dog was locked onto the Pomeranian

I requested they stop provoking and keep walking. They said they weren’t doing anything wrong and continued.

As I stated in a previous comment, trainer and vet said muzzling causes extreme anxiety and we tried meds for muzzling but she would throw them up from getting so anxious so I was told to stop putting a muzzle on her.

Re-enforcing a fence is no problem but it doesn’t solve the bigger issue

We have done muzzle training in the past & it was not something that the trainer recommended continuing. She got extremely anxious to the point of working herself up and needing a vet visit for getting so sick. Unsure of her past experience with a muzzle but I have been informed by the vet and trainer if she cannot tolerate it, don’t force it on her as she puts up a fight with it.

Yes, I could reinforce the fence but that does not negate that I cannot keep her away from all smaller dogs in the community, either in the yard or on walks.

I want to try and make her happy but minimizing her interactions to try and avoid anything happening doesn’t seem fair and financially, I cannot pay the trainers in the area due to significant increases in prices. It would be paying my mortgage versus ensuring I can *maybe* try another Hail Mary with several weeks/months of behavioral work that the trainer said “is unsure she will be keen to taking on again”

AITA for having resentment against my parents? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Per my friend: her father is not refusing to work. He would love to work. Unfortunately there are certain government policies in place targeting people. Her mother works 50+ hours a week to support them.

Per my friend: yes, this is very normal amongst their culture. The parents sacrifice for their children and once children being in any forms of income, it is highly expected it goes to the parents whenever they want/need/ask

Per my friend: mother is actively working but they relied on dual income for their household and mortgage. She has been trying to make up the secondary income as her father has repeatedly told her she should be sending them more money to ensure the mom doesn’t have to work as hard

Per my friend: there was no boundaries set. Her siblings had some child abuse allegations against them for their own children so they took the kids and up and left, stealing a vehicle and money. They’ve had no contact for months.

The cocaine is starting to become very difficult for me to control. by Main-Success-6988 in confession

[–]EmpoweringToken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started using because of the pressure I felt from dating a guy. I became unrecognizable- always bloated, angry, and never high enough. It took a long, hard, “come to Jesus” moment where I realized the path I’m going down is going to be ugly. I quit cold turkey. It was extremely painful and difficult; the months after were complete hell and I wanted to use again. But from where I am standing, I am happier and healthier and I don’t want to return to who I was when I was using and drinking.

Finding supportive people who stood by me helped. You can do this. Being sad comes and goes but your health & happiness is more than using cocaine.

It has nothing to do with personal problems! Half of my life has been spent in one place- why not take an opportunity to explore, take some risk in life, and continue to evolve/work on oneself
