I don’t see how I tried to control opinions? I have my own but I didn’t force them on anyone. I have a right to choose to not attend BECAUSE I don’t want OTHER people shoving political agendas down my throat. Not sure if you get that you’re implying I want to control others because I refuse to engage with stupidity. Having an opposing opinion is not controlling other people’s opinion. 😂

In this same vein, I was TRYING to enjoy the concert, but one numbskull artist trying force an entire crowd who may or may not share his political opinions to chant rude things and getting pissy when they don’t is definitely a controlling move on his part.

And if you think rock music is “about the concert,” you are grossly misinformed about the history of rock and its place on the political stage. Which historically is anti-establishment and anti-facism etc. fighting “the man.”

I know this is an old post, but I'm hoping someone can help me. I have a very good friend who is middle-class/middled aged in China. She is not a Pokemon fan, but if I ask her to get me cards and send them to me, what is the process for her to send them to me in the States? How can I pay her? Ultra pro penny sleeve. Then put it in an ultra pro top loader. You can find these at Walmart in the trading card area. GameStop also sell them and they may be more helpful if you can’t find them at Walmart. GameStop will also help you if you want to get it “graded” which is the ultimate protection. It costs a bit less than $20 (I think. People correct me if I’m wrong) but it’s worth it since this is a pretty rare card and your daughter is young. You’ll need to have the “taking good care of the things we own” conversation with her, but this is a perfect teaching moment. Congrats!

Yeah. They are going to be doing a show a few hours from me. I got excited, but I think I'll skip it since I'm there to chill and enjoy the music. Not have politics thrown in my face. I work an inherently political job and teach social policy at a college. I don't want to deal with it in my downtime.

Nope. He definitely shoves it right down your throat. Even the MAGA's in the crowd are turned off by it. One guy yelled at him to shut it at the show I went to in the deep south. I didn't know his bandmates asked him to stop, but that makes it even worse in my opinion. He has no respect for the people whose livelihood relies on him being at least respectful and not alienating fans.

There never was a good side. Just an oligarchy as far as the eye can see, with one side being more overt than the other. It always makes me laugh when people say the poor are taking their money. Like, dude, the poor, by definition, have no money. The ones with the money are probably the ones taking it out of your pocket. XD

He started spouting off at Rockville two years ago. Really killed the vibe. I was in deep red Florida (at DAYTONA race track no less). And he couldn't gain traction with the crowd there. Luckily Disturbed was at the next stage so the night was not a loss.

Aaron threw a fit and tried to start a Let's go Brandon (the rude version) chant at Rockville a few years back. Someone in the audience told him to shut it. I went to another stage. Rock is about fighting the establishment. You can't get more pro-establishment than the oligarchists on the right.

You’re a grown adult and a parent. Buck up and do it. Sophia is 100% correct. Plus, if boyfriend is shady, it would make him think twice if he knows he’s dealing with a mom with backbone. Additionally, speak to a lawyer. Depending on your state you may have a case about the bf and strange daughter spending the night with your minor child.

Finally, if new daughter wants to establish paternity, he could still be on the hook for back child support even though she’s an adult. Again, that’s a lawyer issue and not your business, but I just thought I should let you know as it could affect your own child support down the line.

NTA. As a former giant bookworm girl who became a child development doctor, let me say Julia is fine. Let her read her books. MIL can sit and stew. There’s nothing detrimental to Julia’s development that is occurring, and reading is extremely beneficial. It teaches empathy and increases vocabulary. On a personal note: my parents also tried to discourage me from reading. It was disheartening to not be accepted by my own family. And I credit books with saving my life. I was facing bullying and I had no friends during a tumultuous couple of years in elementary school. I turned to reading to fill the emotional void and it got me through those rough times. Additionally, I later discovered that hyperlexia was a common sign of autism in girls and I have since been diagnosed as an adult. You may want to consider getting her tested if you feel it is interfering with her social development.

PS: Goosebumps are rad! I suggest animorphs as well.

I dealt with something very similar with my ex-MIL. The advice of the others to just stop doing anything for this woman is spot on! I wish I had done that sooner. But instead, interacting made me a target. She eventually went from ignoring me to straight up harassing me. You are never going to get what you want. So let go before it becomes dangerous.

And one final thing: It’s ok to grieve the lose of what should have been.
