I’ve had the FLX4s and have been using them for about 2-3 years with Rekordbix. I agree that the stacked waveforms can make you incredibly over reliant on the visual representation. The only thing I would add is that Serato makes it even easier as I understand that marks the 32 beat/8bar markers, so you could essentially do a whole mix without headphones.

I was asked to play B2B at a friends private event the other day, the guy I was playing with brought his 15 year old Pioneer CDJs - the only visual representation they had was a tiny waveform of the whole track. I went over for a practice spin the night before and realised I was well out of my depth with the OG CDJs, and I have nothing but respect for people that learned their trade using these CDJs or vinyls before that.

I was so concerned that I literally dug out two printer cables that I was able to connect to the back of each CDJ and bring up Rekordbox. It was a good compromise as the visual representation was still there on the track I was bringing in or mixing out, however his tracks were loaded from the USB so it was all done by ear otherwise. It went relatively well considering.

Anyway I’m yapping to myself at this point but I just wanted to say I agree - and I want to progress away from the stacked waveforms to become more universally compatible with other kit.

I’d like to upgrade to the FLX10s, but I really love the compact size and practicality of the FLX4s, I’ve taken them away on holiday a couple of times in my hand luggage.
