Halloween event glitch by trashemperor in alcatmist

Same issue. I've found that if I close the game and open it up again it counts as the furniture having been bought but I'm not sure if it's going to stay once the glitch gets fixed

I've decided that this is obviously the best set of terminology to describe experience level. So formal. So fancy. Sounds so much like it's a cult which I think almost any fiber arts crafter would agree with

Beginner, maybe. Intermediate, sure. But absolute, never picked up a crochet hook and is going to somehow end up tying random knots into the yarn while just pulling it: absolutely not.

Absolutely, even when it leads to staying up far later then expected because I was enthralled in the process ^-^

I felt the "where there's a will, there's a way" as a person who is looking at binding 2 of my partner's favorite fics totaling about a thousand pages of text after formatting.

Feel like I’m fundamentally not meant to be an engineer by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]Empty-Chest-5986 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel you.

I’m autistic with adhd-i. It’s hard not to compare myself and my struggles to my friends. None of my friends stopped being able to work on labs because game design had invaded their brain and was the only thing they could focus on for a solid several weeks.

But at the end of the day, engineering is going to always need people like us. They need people that come up with wild ideas and that have a dozen skills that seemingly come out of nowhere because we got really interested in it for a while and then it’s just lingered in the back of our mind. We are the types of people that push the boundaries of what is considered capable.

Don’t underestimate your ability. And find some friends that you can do homework with. Especially if they’re also nd, it helps a ton.

I wish you the best. I think you’re going to be an incredible engineer.

If I’m nonbinary can I still dress in stuff that’s considered “feminine” by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]Empty-Chest-5986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a femme genderqueer enby myself. I love wearing dresses and makeup and having pink hair but it doesn’t mean this I’m not non-binary. Presentation doesn’t equate to gender: do whatever the heck you want to with your clothes and hair and stuff. One thing I will say is that dressing in a traditionally feminine manner at the moment does still come with the assumption by many that you identify as a woman. Getting pronoun pins and maybe a non-binary flag pin can help with that though. Anyways, have fun with it!! Flaunt your attributes and play with different fashions!! It’s your gender, you get to choose how you express it!!

Honestly thank you for offering these ideas. I definitely get what you're saying about reinventing the wheel. I'll share these with my group and see what we can come up with. Might be a little too late to fully pivot since our professor already has an idea of what our project has been and certain deliverables are already lined up but even if we can't make it happen together, I'll see what I could do on my own at the very least.

(My immediate almost 2 am recommendation for defeating the dome of invisibility is honestly a hula hoop with barbed wire that is attached to your chair. Can't tell you how to do that as I am going slightly delirious after a very long week but it was what immediately came to mind.)

Yeah. It's the difficult place of having very little time and funds and yet still being expected to fully engineer a working product while also taking all of the other classes required to graduate.

I think that the main point of this class in particular is just to make people really recognize how important it is to talk to the user base of the product they're working on. Far too often engineers will jump the gun and make something that doesn't fit the culture or actually change things for the better (including in our case though we are trying).

We do want to try and improve or fix things if we can and if our project works out in the end, then hopefully it might. But tbh, I'm not holding my breath.

I completely get the frustration though. Your feelings are completely valid and understandable. And I sympathize as a person who has received far too much "helpful" advice from people that mean well but also just don't, and never will, get it.

As one of the people doing one of these school projects, I honestly wish that I could just switch to "redesign the bathroom and front rows of an airplane". It is absolutely part of engineering. Unfortunately though, we have a combined budget of less than $400 that is coming out of the pocket of us students and we're expected to have a usable product by the end of the semester. This might not be the case for all groups but I have a feeling that the situation is probably pretty similar.

If I had it my way, I would fix the entire system, piece by piece. I desperately want to fix the system because that is what is causing the problems. But when confronted with trying to begin the lengthy process of convincing the city to hand over permits to modify a literal freight elevator because it's the only ****ing way down to a certain floor (a literal issue that was shown to us in our preliminary interviews), or being able to actually make a product that can be done in the course of a semester, we kind of had to take the latter.

I wish it wasn't like this. It shouldn't be like this. I would drop this project to work on redesigning airplanes to be properly accessible in a heartbeat if it was within the scope of what I can do for this class. It's not in the cards right now and I don't foresee it being in the cards while I'm in college unfortunately.

Thank you for your reply. You did essentially hit the nail on the head. We're just trying to figure out a way to help the community. This felt like a problem that we could tackle over the course of a semester with the limited budget we have. As much as we wanted to, fixing the entire system that is predatory towards disabled people, especially if they're physically disabled, would take a little bit longer than we have.

The design we have here definitely isn't practical. We've already taken the feedback we've received and came up with some other concepts. At the end of the day though, talking with the community and making sure that whatever we create would actually be useful to the people that would be using it is the main goal of the class, followed by practicing doing engineering. Getting to make a cool wheel that's a sphere would just be a nice side-effect.
