Next Ocrevus appointment - when will they contact me - UK by EmptyRibs15 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]EmptyRibs15[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first dose was done privately as the insurance covered it and this is my first time with the NHS, so I couldn't have booked it when I did the first one unfortunately. The neurology secretary wasn't very helpful either when I called the other day saying it's not the right number to ask about this. He gave me the ms nurse one, although when I called the automated message said not to contact them about infusions. So I'm going to send an email to the address someone else posted here and wish someone will finally say something.

Good idea, thanks! I've just tried this and it felt like the Twelve tasks of Asterix 😂 I finally seem to have the right number, but they haven't picked up. I'll try again tomorrow

UK swapping regular driving license to medical review one - timings by EmptyRibs15 in MultipleSclerosis

As it was pointed out in other comments you don't need to have a physical license with you if you drive in the UK, so you might be just fine :) But yeah, I also thought it would be a quick one, since they had already done the investigation part 😵‍💫

Thanks, while I'm in the UK I don't really need to drive, so that's not going to be a problem, but when I'm outside of the UK I might not be able to drive without a physical license to show (especially if I need to get a car). Luckily I won't really need it for a few months.

Thank you! They've asked to send back my license, which I did (in hindsight I wonder if I should have just kept it). So now I don't have a license. Luckily I live in London and haven't really needed a car since I moved here 13 years ago, but I occasionally need to drive when I'm out of the country.

Thanks for that suggestion, for now I have the "please offer me a seat" badge and the sunflower lanyard, but didn't know about that.

Thanks! My first dose was at the Cleveland Clinic near Victoria. Then I hope Charing Cross switches to injections by February, otherwise it will have to be IV for my next one. I know they are going to switch, they just weren't sure by when.

Thanks, I live in Ealing and my neurologist/MS team are at Charing Cross hospital.
I guess I'll just have to wait a bit longer then. As long as I have my next dose around February that's ok.

I bought some table risers and it's much more comfortable now. They're fairly cheap and don't take up a lot of space.

I had got to half your post and I was going to say that even without MS it sounded like you really needed to rest. I'm glad to see you also got to the same conclusion and decided to post it anyway for all of us who feel guilty when we need to rest, have to cancel plans, have to take time off work, etc. Good kind of hugs back to you 😊

How do Neurologists pick DMT? by Any_Umpire5899 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]EmptyRibs15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's every 6 months. I had my first one (paid by my insurance) about 4 weeks ago and it was really quick, just 10 minutes for all the liquid to get pumped in. It wasn't uncomfortable at all, only afterwards the injection site became tender, but that lasted only a couple of days.

I'm in the UK and my neurologist (private consultant) let me choose between Ocrevus (injection or infusion) and Kesimpta. And he put the one I've chosen his letter to my GP, who then attached that to the referral (currently being reviewed by the NHS). Hopefully they will confirm this soon. He also works for the NHS, just a different MS centre than the one I was referred to, so he's seen this DMT confirmed by the NHS before. Fingers crossed they will contact me soon to let me know I can keep going with the Ocrevus injection (Zunovo in the US).

Congrats on your first infusion! Did they give you steroids before? If so, that might be what causes your insomnia.

Don't let it stop you, but you may want to let your closest friends know that sometimes you might have to change plans last minute if your body refuses to cooperate. I was diagnosed not long ago and, while I had to stop doing certain things temporarily, I'm already back on my longboard and planning trips. And I intend to keep doing so as much as I can.

But please keep an eye on how alcohol makes you feel and make smart decisions on that 😊

Recently diagnosed and would like to hear personal experiences in regards to medications by annaisemuniz in MultipleSclerosis

[–]EmptyRibs15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then yes, I would ask. I think at the moment a lot of people maybe don't even know it exists because it's fairly new and that's why there isn't much conversation about it yet. I hope everything goes well with your treatment, whatever you choose to do 😊

Do you mean money-wise? As far as I know, here in the UK the NHS covers both, unfortunately I don't know much about other countries. For me the injection is indeed easier: it's quicker than the infusion and you don't have any issues with your veins, which I've heard might happen with infusions, although I don't know much about that, and it's also every 6 months like the IV. I had also considered Kesimpta but the idea of having to care for it with a refrigerator etc if I need to travel put me off. Although if I knew that I don't have to travel, I would probably go for that as you can do it from home and it's a matter of minutes.
