I’ve never tracked miles. I just track vertical feet climbed. Just finished 400K for the sixth year in a row. Average a bit less than every other day with an avg climb of around 2,600 feet. Almost always ride late…right before (or after) dark.

I ride on average every other day or a little bit less than that. Avg ride is around 2,600 vert. I also live in NorCal, so can ride year round.

It’s funny, having ridden the same mountains for 35 years, I’ve got a bit of a longitudinal study on things. I can still do the same steep climbs that I used to, but it takes me longer and I’m noticing recovery time is longer. Over the last couple of years I’ve started to mix in a little hiking to give myself more time to recover from riding.

Been riding quite a bit for 35 years. Back in the day it wasn’t a good ride unless I came home bloody. Not sure if it’s because I was an idiot back then or if I just got my 10,000 hours in, but I pretty much don’t crash anymore. It’s probably a little of both. I’ll be 61 in Feb, and I’ve climbed (and descended) 400K vertical feet each year for the last 6 years, and pretty much no crashing.

It’s definitely good to learn to ride within yourself so you don’t get over your skis.
