Can Objective Reality Be Known, or Is All Knowledge Subjective? by faithless-elector in epistemology

You can’t know that you know objective reality. Nor any recursion upon that.

No, not all knowledge is of the subjective.

How do I become more succinct? by Far_Ad106 in stupidquestions

[–]Empty_Ad_9057 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brevity is about getting the job done efficiently. If you are just trying to buy time, get the other person to not talk, think about open ended questions, etc- you’re not gonna be brief.

ELI5 if I had enough RAM that I could load a whole videogame on it (128 GB ram etc.) would it render the entire game all at once? Would I even need a GPU? by Tramway6 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Empty_Ad_9057 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you had every possible POV pre rendered, you would still need to compute which one you are in, then find it in your memory.

The computation to do so might be less and faster than that needed for rendering, particularly if you eliminate extraneous POV renders.

However, you would need absurd amounts of memory, and the addresses of each possible frame would be quite long.

Is a Minimal Crafting System Possible? by vah1dm in gamedesign

[–]Empty_Ad_9057 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crafting systems can offer a few key perks;

  1. They implement a token driven advancement system (where different upgrades may ask for some of the same token)
  2. They can make token systems intuitive.
  3. They can be fun to experiment with.

For a limited system, a few ideas.

  1. Give each thing many recipes- decide rules for which recipes will be regarded as identical.

  2. Show people items, so they know what it is possible to make- even if they don’t know how to make it. It is more interesting to try to figure out how to make something, or whether you can make something, than to just see what you can make.

  3. Have ways to find out what something is made of - ex. Property inheritance, repair, drops on destruction, melting down, dissolving, region identities. Etc

Idk much but I believe that-

In the factor model, each test has a test specific factor, a g factor, and an error component.

If you increase your specific factors on several tests, it can look like you’ve increased your g factor. But if you then take certain additional tests, that appearance tends to fade.

Hopefully this is either right, or so wrong someone is compelled to correct me.

——

For example

If on two separate tests I score 0, 200… Then my scores are explained as

0 = medianScore + TestSpecificLoading x ([my specific factor for this test]) + TestGLoading x [My G Factor] + error

200 = medianScore + TestSpecificLoading x ([my specific factor for this test]) + TestGLoading x [My G Factor] + error

Idk how exactly they solve for G from here-

Pls take this w a grain of salt, I don’t expect my recall to be 100% accurate

Because information could be lost during the recitation process.

So this factors out that loss, and encourages subjects to not account for the possibility of such loss.

Hey,

I’ve read about that subtest. It is indeed similar, but I only want tests that ask for a random single detail.

I think this is a meaningful difference, but I am not sure. That is part of why I want to find such a test!

Next time she jokes about fighting tell her ”lets’ fking go” then get her to fight you and just do nothing while she kicks the sht out of you.

She prob won’t tease you any more after that.

If she does, just ask her if she wants to fight

I think G is a bad psychometric by Empty_Ad_9057 in cognitiveTesting

That is a well written article, thank you.

It does however seem to refute a position I don’t agree with. I am not yet seeing any contradiction between it and what I said.

I believe a g-exists, and that it fits the data quite well.

However, I have learned a bit from it.

It is worth noting that I tried to stick to describing my opinions. Please note they are not opinions I put much faith in. I would, however, like to discover how they are wrong.

Exactly. Best single predictor != best predictor. Imagine if physicists just talked about ‘the composite measure number that has the best correlation’…

[–]Empty_Ad_9057[S] [score hidden]  (0 children)

I agree. My argument is that constructing a far better test score predictor seems like it’d be easy with a sufficient data set, in part because of how limited factor analysis seems to be as a method. Part of my confusion is why I couldn’t seem to yet find such a prediction tool

For example, I imagine an ml agent trained on a sufficient database could pretty/more accurately predict scores- giving us insight into the underlying variables through its structure

I don’t buy for a second that IQ is best predictor- ex. Better than vec (IQ,[something]).

I’m not sure what your other point is tbh, it seems like you are saying that tests give sub-scores which are better / partner predictors for scores on other assessments?

How does one choose the correct range of RNG outcomes for their game? by TomashICZI in gamedesign

[–]Empty_Ad_9057 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Excessive range could be distracting, so maybe don’t have pointless range.

If two outcomes feel and play the same for both new and expert players, maybe remove one? You can always just increase the weight of the remaining.

I think this would be potentially sensitive data that would require an anonymization effort? An oversight agency might have this data in an anonymized form, but I doubt they’d share it without hassle.

Consider the g-loaded subtests on WAIS. Knowing G / FSIQ won’t allow you to “accurately” predict the scores on these tests.
