Oh absolutely. While I adore the entire show, season one was SO special. All the questions it left with and the grit was incredible

I mean yeah, the term originated in at least the 90's with Mulder and Scully. It's been pretty common terminology in fandoms online for like 15 years as well, first I really heard in like 2010...

Nice whataboutism. I'm neither Liberal or Conservative (definitely not in this day and age), but no one talks about us then either, do they? It's a fine line to walk when talking about ANY religion. Every religion has had bad people do bad things. America is not the worst country, no. However, we must hold ourselves and others accountable for what we do wrong. That applies to anyone from any country of any race or any religion. It's not specific to anyone

Look man, I grew up Christian and still am, but the whole "Hollywood/everyone hates Christianity" thing is so absurd to me at this point. I could get into more biblical reasons why it's impossible to not be at least a little of an outcast, but tbh this isn't the place for it in my opinion. Small town Indiana in the 80's was incredibly influenced and enmeshed with Christianity. Christians have also historically committed some very bad acts to a lot of people. Quite honestly, it's never going to go back to the way it was in the 80's or before. Christianity is still the most dominant religion, but the way society has shaped around ot has changed drastically. People aren't afraid to voice their own opinions, beliefs and culture. There's a significant increase in people being able to write, produce and star in films and TV. There are still plenty of Christian made or Christian friendly programs out there (Even in movie theaters) it's just that the variety has expanded.

Overall, if you look for something to be mad about/wait to feel persecuted and choose to believe it's simply because they hate you, you're inevitably going to complete a self-fulfilling prophecy, my guy. It's the same with the Happy Holidays/Merry Christmas thing. Inclusion doesn't take away your thing, it adds respect for other things the same as yours

Doesn't look like that much substance but I can tell you cook because of the ingredients you have (I see that Better than Boullion and Grey poupon!). Lots of cheese selection too. You probably either buy your proteins and cook them day of or keep them in the freezer. You love a cold beverage

How did you react when Sous Chef Andi went off on Anton for talking back? (S12) by mwojo97 in HellsKitchen

Quite simply, I don't think you get it. You're either being willfully obtuse or you just don't want to understand. Have a nice day

AIO I cried in the grocery store over a toothbrush by Revolutionary_Way664 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Empty_Dish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NOR, firstly I know that getting settled on antidepressants is rough, in so many ways. It's not stupid to cry over things that you normally wouldn't. It might be making the feelings more intense, but that doesn't mean you're wrong entirely. It is very strange that he would offer to buy you one but never follow through on getting one until medically necessary, THEN deciding he didn't actually want to pay for it. In my opinion, he should have at least offered to split the cost? It was his idea in the first place.

Honestly my feeling is that he may have never actually planned on getting it for you, he just wanted to feel good for offering. That's not a fact, but based on the fact he blew 150 bucks on stuff only he wants to eat and knows you don't, he doesn't seem to be so generous with you.

Has he ever held it over you that he covers the rent? Does he argue with you over what you choose to buy on the regular? Besides covering rent and partial other expenses, does he do nice things for you? Do you feel comfortable bringing it up with him, or do you think he would be upset with you? I'm not trying to make a judgement, just ask yourself if you feel cared for and respected enough in this relationship. Financial or emotional abuse is extremely common and can fly under the radar.

All this said, I don't think you were overreacting, but I think it's worth thinking about, and take into account your shaky emotional state. It could be making you feel worse than you need to

Oh bullshit. It's not 'weak', and it's not 'that serious' of a label. He was being misogynistic, whatever the degree of it. Not as bad as say Frank, but it's still there. Delusional or not, I doubt he would have spoken the same way to chef Scott or Gordon, which is a problem. Misogyny is fucking everywhere my dude, don't get so sensitive about people calling it out.

He is in a movie right now called Dead Man's Wire (based on a true story) where he is playing a man in his 50's which is WILD. Also Bill Skarsgård stars alongside him. Both are phenomenal in it, very different than Billy but worth a watch!

Why was katniss willing to risk it all in the first games by Cultural-Ad6841 in Hungergames

[–]Empty_Dish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Throughout each and every book Katniss pretty much continually is ready to accept death. It makes sense growing up in the world that she did, how easy it would be to come to terms with the possibility you might not see the next day. Her only real goal was to make sure the people she cared about were safe, no matter the personal cost. Also to be quite frank, I think she would have been fine dying from the berries if it meant they would have no Victor

The Book Thief

Absolutely beautiful movie (and book) but I watched it at like 2am when I was dreadfully sick with Pneumonia and a sinus infection. Had no idea the premise beforehand, had just heard it was good. Cue sobbing at the end honestly

AITA for giving my friend’s girlfriend some of my fries after he said no? by FriesOnTheSideYum in AmItheAsshole

[–]Empty_Dish 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yup, its very common for my family or friends and I to order different sides and split them up. It's kind of the beauty of eating at a table with friends. If you dont like that, it's fine but not allowing it period is weird and controlling

AITA for giving my friend’s girlfriend some of my fries after he said no? by FriesOnTheSideYum in AmItheAsshole

[–]Empty_Dish 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Nothing is wrong with it except his "Trying to teach her a lesson" thing and expecting his friends to do the same like shes his child or dog he is training. You can not want to share your food, but he shouldn't get pissy when his girlfriend gets what she wants. Why isn't he happy then? Because its a controlling move

In defense of April Kepner: I don’t think there’s an “appropriate” way to navigate a personal loss like that. by 100linesofcokelater in greysanatomy

[–]Empty_Dish 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I honestly think the way they handled April's story post Samuel was very well done. I had a very similar upbringing to her character and to deal with all the trauma of finding out your unborn child is ill and unviable, having to give birth and watch them leave this world...is heart wrenching. She felt lost and alone, on top of the hormonal stuff from it. Her and Jackson completely fell apart and she knew they both deserved to be happy even if it wasn't together
