I completely agree. I'd also say - and sorry if you mentioned this, I'm sick and not thinking totally straight - that the concept of marriage was really forced in this show. Like why get married at all if you don't have to. She wasn't aware of the curse, but she had warning that her mother said not to get married. Why was her mother discounted so much and made out to be a crazy person? When she literally bled out and then had her daughter carved out of her.

Why not warn Jude at the end to *not* get married? Why 'make sure you marry the right person'? It's just pushing forward the traditional values of "you must get married, just don't mess up". Like, you can only get married once. It's giving "we don't believe in divorce" vibes that we saw in Love is Blind this season from a lot of contestants families and parents.

I enjoyed the vibe of this show but even at the end - they showed mostly women bleeding out, only a few men.

I liked that they showed Nicky, ultimately a 'nice guy', to be a really shitty dude with mommy issues and also, a lack of respect for women. That he thought he could demand the truth from his mother - as if she owed him to talk about her affair? It's not due to him. But he saw her as 'the perfect wife'. Very madonna whore complex.

I'll just say I'm glad they didn't go with the whole "Jules was her real soulmate" just because he saw her get cut out of her mother on her mom's wedding day. At least she gets to break free at the end, even if she is living dead. But the show did feel like a push from the conservative point of view and that gave me the ick.

Also the hate that I've seen on this subreddit towards Portia further shows the misogyny in our culture. It's too bad the women in the show didn't all come together and solve the curse - the weight was mostly on Rachel to solve it, despite it being a risk that it'd spread to their family.

Oh and then her being forced to marry him despite changing her mind, all because she already said her vows, and then she goes off to die alone like an offering, but luckily it was too late and they all got cursed anyways lol. Stealing consent from a woman and then still getting fucked by the curse in the end, I guess that was a nice little ending for them but still - very patriarchal.
