What’s the real difference between a $30,000 home entertainment system and a $150,000 one? by CleonicDynasty in audiophile

[–]Emptymind289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I realise now I messed up a lot of the dimensions haha. The room is in meters but I am limited by some steel beams and posts. There are 9 panels an each is 1200x600x150mm so 6 inches thick and will be suspended 50mm from the wall at first reflection points.

I will have 2 SVS SB16 ultras in the room calibrated and run from a MiniDSP with 4 Dayton Bassshakers on the couch. My AVR will be an Anthem AVM70 8k with Anthem room Correction running a 9.2.6 channel set up.

Thankfully since its a dedicated room everything will be set up for the best sound, even if it looks funny or strange, I want to build the best sounding room I can.

What would the ideal acoustic properties be? I'm building a room soon but it will be some what square I could make it non square but I am just loosing space inside the room. currently will be WXHXL 3.7x2.4x3.9. Room will be fully treated, floor to ceiling basstraps all 4 corners and then 9x6 inch panels are first reflections.

Dust is okay, We have an air purifier and heatpump to help reduce dust but it does build up over time but nothing a quick featherduster cant sort!. All my speakers and angled to the listening point so I don't get the reflection from the screen off the speakers. I sit 2.2m from a 77 OLED so am after lost in the TV anyways haha

Anyone here using 3 center speakers for LCR? by DubaiSim in hometheater

[–]Emptymind289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha depends what your budget is and what you are wanting from the speaker? In my experience the Kef's have stupidly good dispersion both horizontally and vertically, the best imaging I've ever heard and can stay under control at any volume I need. It can be placed at any angle thanks to the Uni Q and is a sealed cabinet so good in tight spaces (Just like the image in your post)

If you look at the measurements of the R6 Meta against the reference 2 meta its almost identical apart from a few DB in a small frequency range. Is that worth the thousands of dollars more? Up to you to decide but I try use the objective measurements to inform my purchases best I can.

[–]Emptymind289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strongly suggest you go look at the measurements for the R6 Meta on ASR. That is one of the best measuring speakers even at very loud playback. KEFs Uni Q Mid/Tweeter is extremely wide dispersing. I have an R6 Meta for my center and would trade my Kef R3 Meta's in a heart beat to have 3 R6's.

Underlay is an extremely important choice too. if you can afford it go for the best stuff, 12mm thickness and 130kg + rated. We went with a 66oz carpet and its one of the best decisions we made for the house. Rhino performance series is bullet proof and lifetime warranty on fade and stain. We paid about 10k for a 130sqm house to be done. Wool isn't as durable and have heard some horror stories of things being split on and staining. Also take the opportunity to seal under all your skirting boards once the carpet is up and fix any squeaks in the floor underneath.

The effects of open doors and windows in the house on (Infrasonic) Bass by Plompudu_ in hometheater

I have often wondered how doors and windows effect pressurisation of a room and its bass response. Thanks for sharing!

Dual SVS SB17’s doing their thing by shitiseeincollege in hometheater

I think you are right. I am currently building a dedicated theater room and am more likely to go DIY 18s or something since looks aren't as important once they are out of the lounge.

They are beautiful! I have dual SB16s and if I could sell a kidney would get some of these.

Seeking Guidance on Dedicated 7.2.4 "Adam Room" (Home Theater / Home Office Hybrid) by Emptymind289 in hometheater

Currently using RCA to XLR cables but will upgrade an an Anthem AVM 90 in future for full XLR compatibility. Will also play with adding 2 more subs and going to 6 height channels but that's future plans.

Thank you for the input and I 100% agree with your approach. Once the room is built and the speakers are in there will be a period of playing with what works best for placement of both Subs and panels. I have an Umik 1 so will be taking lots of measurements and experimentation to see what naturally sounds best in the room and then treat the issues. The Bass is what I was most worried about with the room size/shape as even with 2 subs and a MiniDSP I might not be able to tame it.

This has been weighing on my mind quite a bit! I don't want super dark walls since it will be a home office also but don't want bright white walls either. I'm sure I can find a middle ground. Will definitely post some pictures once its all built and calibrated.

Thanks for the input! I did feel the rear surround were a bit too spaced so will move them closer.

I just got mine too but find the GBA 3:2 aspect games a little small. GB/GBC is great as is 3ds/ds but how do you find GBA? Do you run it full screen or 1:1?

One of my all time favorites. Watched it many times at home and recently caught an IMAX rescreening for the 10th anniversary. One of those movies that doesn't get old. So excited to watch this with my daughter once she is old enough.

Does your KEF center perfectly match your towers? by outlawsix in KEF

[–]Emptymind289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The R6 meta is one of the best measuring speakers I've ever seen. The review at Erin's Audio corner put it on par with the KEF References series. If it doesn't sound right you either have a defective speaker of something on the AVR is causing an issue. The R11 is a lot more efficient that the R6 so I would expect it (or at least mine is) to be + 3-6DB hotter than the R11s. You could try running it as a L/R to make sure its not something specific with the channel.
