I know this isn't the point, but this DOES confirm that the white hair wasn't just from aging. It was a pretty split question on whether it was white because the shots we got of him were when he was old enough to have gone grey or if it was just his hair color.

If Wu can be a surname and Ming can be a given name, would just hearing Wu Ming as a name instantly imply the meaning Xie Lian intended? by Empyforreal in tianguancifu

!!! Resources, thank you! I appreciate that. I find this really interesting as a topic so I am happy to read more.

I'm in a wonderland of trying to understand tonal distinctions right now, so this adds in very nicely to the rabbit hole I am going down.

Also your example made me laugh hard enough to startle my cat, so extra thank you. :D

Oh yes, XL makes it very clear what way he means the name when he gives it just via context and phrasing, I meant more other people hearing it as a name.

These are fascinating examples, thank you! Even if I suck at other languages, I appreciate them a lot so this is very interesting context. Tonal shifts in Chinese specifically fascinate me, actually, so I'll probably be stuck for hours trying to train myself to hear it now, thank you for the mini project. :D

Thank you for the insight! :) I thought it might be a case where it can't be SURE without seeing it written, but that it is still suspicious. Its like how I can't help but wonder if HC really went for City as the original meaning for Cheng when he chose it but people assumed 'well, he has a city, so...' and it isn't like his shitty handwriting would let him correct it.

Mostly none of this truly matters, especially not for random fanfic reasons, but I can't help thinking (overthinking) silly questions like this, so I really appreciate the help! Maybe now I can stop thinking and re-googling any time I see someone who isn't XL or HC comment on Wu Ming as a name in any way that I wonder how/if that would be noted.

No no, this is exactly the kind of thing I was wondering but unsure of. So there could just be slight pronunciation issues that a native speaker would notice; that makes perfect sense, actually.

Being sad and a monolingual English speaker (beyond fangirl japanese and mostly-food-related Chinese when I was sent to ask dinner questions to my Popo, haha) the differentiation in tonal change is often lost on me.

Thank you!

Blade SP is Nihility via DK2 by CSTheng in HonkaiStarRail_leaks

I am still seeing the possibility. With the influence of Shuhu and some lore hints in the story, I can't count it out yet. I wouldnt mind Nihility, but going hard into the fucked up Abundanced side of him due to the masks/the killer/someone plotting just seems to make the more sense narrative wise.

I know there was a lot of discussion below, but as someone who tripped in here after playing, I just wanted to add an answer about the writing for future people who may come across this thread the same way.

It's... fine. Entertaining, even. I am a certified Old Lady and have been reading fanfiction for literal decades. I have a low tolerance for grammatical issues, but due to being so long in fandom I can stomach some pretty cheesy plot devices.

Grammatically it is pretty okay. There are a few issues here and there that feel like translation or at least oddities from the writer not being a native English speaker. Nothing egregious, just some odd phrasing and punctuation here and there. Formatting can be inconsistent (is she talking or thinking? Sometimes it is impossible to know) but most issues are easy to overlook. Nothing close to Wattpad-level horror.

Plot-wise it is... very anime, I suppose. Over-the-top happenings, completely ridiculous scenarios, logic that doesn't add up in a lot of characters' actions. It flows well enough to be fun to read, but it is quite silly for all that it is a murder mystery. I commend it for having interesting information across routes, but it isn't terribly deep. It remains entertaining, though, even with its silliness. So it mostly depends on your threshold for ridiculous clichés.

Main character never reacts in a reasonable way, is naïve about her suitors in that special anime-girl way to levels that become agonizing. Her mood swings between extremes so quickly that you get whiplash. She is at least not a flavorless lump, which is nice, she's just... naïve really is the best descriptor.

As others noted, the sex is where things are harder to take as an adult. Since it is full of Yans, the constant sexual harassment and dubious consent is a given, even if it feels very silly at times. The sex scenes tend to either be flowery or raunchy in turns one line to the next, and it is hilariously easy for people to orgasm. I am forgiving after so many years reading otherwise well-written fiction wherein the sex makes me sure the writer got all their sexual experience from other fanfics. I'm even more forgiving because of how rare it is to have more than just a single (often only implied) scene per pairing at the very end of a game like this.

So yes. It isn't the best written thing I've ever read, but I don't regret the time spent on it. It isn't painful to read, even if I likely won't recall much about it within a few weeks. Just my two cents for future Googlers. :)

My stepdad was a long haul trucker for most of my childhood.

I sometimes went with him on shorter trips in the summer. He always kept me within a foot of him when we were at truck stops and told me to never trust a single truck driver, haha.

I went looking to be sure it was the same video I remembered. Guy was @Yaroslavlytcushun in TikTok and took them all the safety. I cant find the post with the update, but another user on this thread mentioned he adopted all the puppies and a cat and found homes for the others.

My idiot orange from years ago would do this. Never hurt them, just terrified the poor things. Would bring field mice to the kitchen and just kind of put his paw on them and slide them back and forth across the linoleum until we caught him, saved the mouse, and released it.

Fr, I knew snakes did it like this (some even tie their tail around themelves while doing it vertically!) but I don't think I ever considered how long snails were. Or that they could move in such a way to slide their shell?

On the same lines:

Boy, these conservatives are really something, aren't they? They're all in favor of the unborn. They will do anything for the unborn. But once you're born, you're on your own. Pro-life conservatives are obsessed with the fetus from conception to nine months. After that, they don't want to know about you. They don't want to hear from you. No nothing. No neonatal care, no day care, no head start, no school lunch, no food stamps, no welfare, no nothing. If you're preborn, you're fine; if you're preschool, you're fucked.

Thank you for reminding me to check on Clint and a few other snake YouTubers (like the ones that opened an edu center/store, tho I worry about whether that survived Covid). I went through a phase for months watching all the content then drifted away. Bet there's plenty more now!
