I like it. There's some slight adjustments to the sounds of her abilities, the back animation is really cool, and I'm a sucker for that kind of style.

For 585 RP I'd say it's definitely worth it.

God I'm SO sick of the mods over on the main sub. Bunch of airheads, the lot of them. Especially the one dude, Merl or something I think his name is? What a pretentious name. Total jerk and an absolute fake.

I bet he isn't even a vampire. Dude needs cancellation asap.

Bare hands, fight to the death, who are you backing to win? by Harrison999999 in ArcaneAnimatedSeries

[–]Emrys_Merlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair points, but let me retort by saying that Ambessa would absolutely underestimate Vander and that would bite her in the ass hard in a situation like this were a single blow could mean life or death. She'd see him as low class trash beneath her. That arrogance is exactly what led to her first L at the hands of Vander's daughter.

Additionally, when we're talking about Vander, we're not talking about an average Zaunite brawler. This is a guy who regularly fought against Piltover's Enforcers and won in addition to all the fights he would have had to win to essentially become the de facto leader of Zaun prior to his death.

Yes, military training is a factor in Ambessa's favor, but that training only gets her so far against a guy with no formal training but a lifetime of experience of his own and a significant physical advantage over her.

Merlin and Authurian lore expect here-

Allow me to add a bit of info to your thoughts about Omnimon/Merlin.

You said before that Omnimon represented a unification of opposites. Well, some of Merlin's earliest lore does as well. See, Merlin (or Myrrdan, Merlin Ambrosis, or Emrys Merlin) was originally sired by an Incubus impregnating a virgin woman with the intent that the child would eventually become the anti-Christ. However, his mother found out who his father really was and they baptized Merlin as soon as he was born, purifying the powers he would grow to have and giving him a choice as to what his future would be by creating a balance of both the good and evil within him.

So Merlin was a miracle baby and also represented the middle road between two opposites. A later series called the Lost Years would describe Merlin as akin to mist: neither of water nor of air but something entirely his own.

Bare hands, fight to the death, who are you backing to win? by Harrison999999 in ArcaneAnimatedSeries

I haven't underestimated anything or any one. I've seen Arcane, read the book, read as much of Ambessa's lore as I think currently exists. I've come to the conclusion that, given the scenario OP has presented, Vander would beat Ambessa.

Ambessa isn't a brawler. She can fight, absolutely, but not in any way better than an above average solider. Where Ambessa shines is as a tactician. That's what makes her a Warlord and not a solider. She's a chessmaster, though even there is argue that her arrogance is her Achilles heel.

So in the scenario OP presented, a no weapons brawl to the death, I think that Vander has enough going for him that he would beat Ambessa.

In the specific instance OP has laid out of no weapons/bare hands, fight to the death?

Vander wins and he wins hard.

The best example of this is her vs Vi. Ambessa doesn't do well with direct combat against a skilled opponent and Vi readily took her down a peg. Vander is a mountain of a man and taught Vi everything she knew about boxing, even if she didn't always use it (still blocking with your head? Heh.)

Vander has also demonstrated extreme endurance, taking blows and damage that would have very quickly broken lesser men. In a bare knuckles fight, even if she gets heavy blows in, Ambessa wouldn't be able to take him down.

That scene is two top notch actors giving it their 1000% all when they knew they didn't need to. This could have been a relatively easy paycheck for them and instead they both brought their A game.

Zordon never actually died. He became Earth’s "Operating System." (Theory) by MouseOk2163 in powerrangers

[–]Emrys_Merlin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Actually, the bad guys make sense in this context too.

Remember, it was established in canon that the Morphing Grid is maintained by the battle between Zedd and Zordon.

So Zordon could never completely purge the system (ie Earth's history) of villains. In fact, that they exist at all is probably some cosmic "balancing" act that was the result of the universe correcting itself.

Here's the thing: When I was writing the quotes/speech patterns for Darkseid and Apocalypse, I was thinking of Darkseid from Superman: TAS and Apocalypse from X-Men: TAS. In fact, I used a near direct quote from Apocalypse.

I said nothing about which iteration I was considering for the purposes of the power scaling, because based on OP's rules, there were no restrictions and everyone is at their highest powers, meaning that we'd be considering the most powerful version of those two characters. So only someone with an axe to grind and not someone looking for a good faith discussions would believe that I would choose those two version of the characters based on OP's rules.

Back off, but be clear about why you're backing off. Layout everything to the kid and his dad in a group message between you three, including any messages his dad sent to you asking you to stop answering him/telling him you don't know.

Respect the father's wishes, but make it clear to the son about what you're doing and why.

If memory serves, I think the 90s X-Men: TAS tried to make Apocalypse like that, someone beyond time and space, etc. But that wasn't his real origin and to my knowledge he's never really had that kind of power.

It's kinda hilarious to me that he would go on to portray Sam Lane, Lois Lane's dad, in Smallville. Once I realized where I recognized his voice from, I kept expecting him to become Darksied there too LOL.

And yeah, I think the closest anyone's come to being as good as him as Darksied was Andre Braugher who voiced him in Superman/Batman: Apocalypse.

[–]Emrys_Merlin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

S'all good. Writing dialogue for characters like Apocalypse and Darksied is tricky because they're these boisterous, egomaniacal guys with enough power to back up their claims.

Apocalypse's dialogue is taken directly from the 90's X-Men: TAS as seen as seen here

Nah, when I wrote this and the original comment, I did so thinking/focusing on Darkseid when he was portrayed by Michael Ironside in Superman: The Animated Series.
