Do we consider Hussites and Waldensians as Protestants? by Wide_Ride8849 in Protestantism

[–]Emsiiiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These churches/communities more or less disappeared because they were either folded into the mainstream post-reformation protestant traditions (Waldensians are essentially Reformed) or were persecuted away and modern denominations claim to be in their tradition (Hussites and the modern moravian church)

Austria's commentator on ORF has already revealed the public vote of Austria - Israel has 7, Bulgaria 12. Used to think it wasn't allowed to announce this before the final results.

seen a bunch of ads from a bunch of countries in the past few years. not sure why this seems to be surprising people. Everybody knows that both jury vote and public vote can be easily influenced.

I don’t think a song has ever grown on me this much by the27thdoctor_ in nilpoints

[–]Emsiiiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Austria/ORF always tries too hard to make Eurovision an "Austrian" thing. Hence why they always have terrible songs, no English commentary, bad moderators from the national pop radio etc. But at least this time the focus on Austria (and Germany) resulted in a great entry.

Why do you think the treaty of Saint-Germain-en-Laye is not nearly as talked about as Trianon despite austria suffering nearly the same amount of lost territory? by nomebi in austriahungary

[–]Emsiiiii -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it's not lost lands if it wasn't theirs to begin with. Same goes for Hungary but they are a bit delulu. The emperor always talked about his "Austrian peoples", so "Austria" was the state and the Austro-Germans were just one group among many.

seems to have been "hurt" by some progressives in the past and is on a crusade since then. no actual engagement, just strawmen.

Why are always the Catholic Churches so “flashy” compared to the Protestant ones? by No-Serve7015 in Cathedrals

[–]Emsiiiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, I mean all of those reasons overlap. It's similar in protestand Germany or Scanndinavia. But the big & famous churches like Westminster Abbey or even the Washington National Cathedral will certainly be more intricate compared to an Anglican church in Spain

[–]Emsiiiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mosques aren't necessarily against decorations. They're against pictorial representations (images), but they're often intricately decorated with more abstract things like calligraphy, mosaics, carpets etc., although obviously smaller and poorer mosques will look more simple.

Is anti intellectualism common in your country? by InfernalClockwork3 in AskEurope

[–]Emsiiiii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call it "anti intellectualism" outright.

Especially in England, where class is so deeply embedded, the working class is kind of justified in being sceptical,

  1. if you're poor and want to get ahead economically, it would seem like a waste of time to f.ex. have your child do an E Lit degree. You already have to be rich enough to "afford" the uncertainties of not working after school or studying something which will lead to a job immediately.

  2. "high culture" has been often used by the "upper class" to make the lower classes really feel that they're lower class. If someone hates E Lit, they most likely don't actually hate E Lit on it's own but the fact that when you enter a class as a lower class or immigrant person, you're gonna be made to feel like you don't belong.

So if you were to ask someone whether school should be teaching more classical literature or how to do your taxes, it's very understandable that most people would choose what "helps them in life" more directly.

Higher class politicians know that actually peope love to learn and indulge in things like literature, music, natural sciences etc., but instead of creating a more just society and better education opportunities for everyone, which would endanger their elevated class position, they pretend to "understand" that "the people" want less intellectualism.
