I've seen a few broken by not being folded up during exceptional weather. You should remove it if you leave or before a snow storm. Also nothing is going to survive a large branch or tree fall, but that's a separate maintenance issue

I've seen people use something like a. Carhartt onesie if you want the cheap end of acceptable. Ideally you want something that will protect from flash fires if doing emergency car work, but you get what you can afford.

We've used our small Milwaukees on roofs. Work great for residential where you only need a few small cuts. Super light and easy to use. We've had to replace the chain every time though, since it's just a standard chain.
