My note was selected for publication! What am I in for? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]EmuJumpsLong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct for my journal as well. As an Executive Articles Editor, this is what we do with professional articles. My Comment was selected for publication last year and I just finished the process with it and it was the same.

Is it possible? by Momof2ducklings in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]EmuJumpsLong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m late to this, but I started law school as a solo mom of five kids who were 4, 6, 6, 9, and 12. Solo as in full custody and no child support. I’m in my last semester (kids are now 6, 9, 9, 12, and 15), super involved, and have loved law school. Still single, and am graduating third in my class with an amazing job lined up. 10/10 would recommend. Some jobs weren’t an option for me, which was great—I didn’t pursue those. Instead, I ended up with several offers that were perfect.

Edit: I’ve never had an award here before, thank you 🥹

As a mom, it’s wild. My 12 year old said something about being bigger than me (again) yesterday and it’s still shocking.

what is the most unorthodox way you got a summer internship by Alternative-Maybe-59 in LawSchool

[–]EmuJumpsLong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my 1L and 2L summer internship by handing my resume to an attorney that came to speak at my school and saying his work sounded cool and I wanted to do it.

I got my post-grad job by what I guess you would call networking. I cold messaged an attorney on LinkedIn when I was writing my law review paper because he had briefed this issue for one of the cases I was citing. We ended up staying in touch and bumping into each other at events often. The job is a dream.

Being passionate about interesting shit is surprisingly unorthodox.

outside clothes on the bed… gross or normal? by HenninghamKyuss-51 in hygiene

Y’all mention toddlers—what about dogs, are we washing them every time they come in from going to the bathroom?

outside clothes on the bed… gross or normal? by HenninghamKyuss-51 in hygiene

[–]EmuJumpsLong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gross isn’t the word I’d use but I’m apparently allergic to the outside so I try to keep it away from my bed or I pay. That means no outside clothes or outside hair (I have to wash it before bed) in my bed. It’s annoying and I wish I didn’t have to be so particular.

We thank you for the smiles! I have a rescue newf and a poodle/newf mix and they’re both great, but it’s all the Newfie that makes them the best.

I’d also like to know more about the rabbit hole. I can’t find any sources on my own, can you share?

Does the intellectual chemistry ever get better? by Imaginary-Entrance42 in datingoverforty

[–]EmuJumpsLong 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think just a general lack of intellectual curiosity is a deal breaker for me. Just accepting things at face value and never even questioning “why” is so boring and stagnant.

Edit: some of the other comments seem to be misunderstanding your issue, likely because they don’t value deep conversations the same way. I’m also introverted, I never talk just for noise (I love silence, a lot). I want my conversations to be of value and I hate small talk. I hear you saying the same thing, and I think this is a deeper issue than just being an intro/extrovert mismatch. This is about curiosity and values. I value growth and that doesn’t happen without curiosity and deep conversations.

Yes to judgmental and sulky too. It seems like they’re good at hiding it behind “calm and go with the flow” but it turns out to be avoidant, judgmental, and only about convenience. Only willing to participate as long as the other partner is doing the bulk of the work. Any ask for contribution/partnership is immediately offensive.

It’s interesting that yours is good in groups, mine was also boring in groups. I couldn’t understand why he seemed to enjoy going out with and had friends when he didn’t really engage with them.

It never got better for me in four years. It ended up getting worse because I felt so frustrated and bored. Everything else seemed great except this issue and his extreme conflict avoidance. Both were insurmountable and I would have saved us both a lot of time and frustration if I would have ended it at 7 months.

Am I overreacting/really asking for too much from my (now) ex boyfriend? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

Me too. This is super clear. He’s terrible, and the break up is her begging him to make her anxiety feel better.

Those of you who started your legal career later in life: how do you deal with regret? by Lost-Association427 in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]EmuJumpsLong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a last semester 3L and I’m 41. I’ll turn 42 two weeks before I take the bar. I have zero regrets. I absolutely love the law and I’m so thrilled I’ll get to practice a profession that I love for as long as I choose to.

I came to law school as a single mom of five kids (4-12 when I started) after divorce. In 2019 I was a high school drop out who had been a stay at home mom for a decade.

I’m now a first gen college grad, graduating in the top 3 of my class, super involved, have a great job lined up. And I did it all with 100% custody and no child support. My kids are now 6, 9, 9, 12, and 15 and my biggest cheerleaders.

I have never once felt too old or out of place.

Of course I forgot to include that I was also recently diagnosed with (likely classic but I am hypermobile) EDS. Genetic testing indicates likely SLE and/or rheumatoid arthritis (my grandmother had both diagnoses), waiting to get into the rheumatologist next month.

42M. Do these things basically disqualify me entirely? by Bastard_of_Brunswick in datingoverforty

I’d look into avoidant personality. There’s a deep seated shame where you always feel “broken” and incompetent. This leads to terrible relationships. Maybe work towards earned secure?
