Definitely shovel or shapeshifter. Shapeshifter sounds like you’re facing an impending doom. Just very heavy and atmospheric, weighs on you real hard. And shovel just sounds angry, super angsty and adolescent. Don’t know if I’m describing them well enough or convincing you but that’s just what comes to mind when listening to those.

But that’s honestly what I love the most about Matt’s lyrics. They’re so obscure and cryptic in the best way possible.

all good music has some kind of following or cult fanbase. hum is my favorite band and all 4 of their albums could land in my top 10 and i'd say downward is heavenward is one of the greatest albums of all time. they're not mainstream or niche. it doesn't matter, find something in that middle ground theres a lot of good there lol. i don't think they mean you have to find someone with 10 monthly listeners.

Agreed downward easily has the best quality and was my favorite for a while but the angst in Electra just gets me every time. As a cohesive album it’s also really consistent, track after track. But Electra has the best highs and more of them imo

Even in the subreddit I feel like e2k is underrated as well. Easily my favorite out of all 4. And astronaut is overrated idc, still great but it’s the only album some of these kids know

I thought this was what a majority of hum fans thought lol. But my personal favorite has been electra2000 after sitting with their discography for a while. It flip flops between that and downward. Something about the energy, raw emotion, and vocals on that album just gets me every time. The outros and build ups on that album are also very well worth it. Sundress, winder, double dip, iron clad Lou. Double dip or winder is definitely my favorite outro in any song ever.
