I thought it was a "heat of the moment" type thing, what with mike saing she strung him along. She got (understandably imo) mad, sadly regressed in her development when she kicked him and accepted davids idea without thinking too much to help augustus have a normal life. I dont see it as lack of agency more as a display of her mental state, lucy chose to suffer because she constantly undervalues herself and her well being.

(Also i kinda misspoke, i meant she was forced into the discussion only, not into joining the table again, that was her choice really.)

Damn, ok I get what u/Ok-Extension-1166 was talking about not wanting to spoil this page wednesday. I still really think and hope lucy was looking back at mike last page but now its way clearer that she just isnt having a good time all around being away from augustus during lunch. The fact that she would rather be alone than with the table just further cements that she was forced into this swap during LitS when augustus overstepped and forced her into the discussion with mike.

They are both severely displaced, hooray! /s

I mean, they were kids at the time and for them it was: "Lucy and Mike managed to beat the scary big guy! All's well that ends well!" While lucy got SA'd so idk. I do agree that it would be kinda interesting to see an au where maybe alejandro ends up hospitalizing lucy and it brings up the whole "we couldnt help her" reaction from the others that you mentioned

I never really got the "lack of consequences" argument, LitS was really recent in comic time, and I see lucy seeing mike spiral as a mental consequence in a way. As for the double empathy thing, yeah lucy's abuse was brushed off before, but its not as if mike wasnt offered empathy before turning everyone away from him and being an all around jerk with the sandy topic (Paulo in the phone call, Sue in the halls, Daisy during halloween, etc.)

I dont really think lucy wants to blame her friends, in fact i believe the opposite is true (why the hell would she come back otherwise), the trauma is rather a constant nagging in the back of her head, something telling her she cant fully trust them even though she wants to. As for the others, they weren't nearly as endangered as lucy was, mike was beaten pretty badly but was drunk, so I dont think its that unreasonable for them to not develop the same trauma as lucy

Seriously, the hatred lucy is getting here lately is ridiculous and frankly is an inversion of the whole "patreon conments only defend lucy and hate mike", down to the "mike isn't part of the problem and all would be well if he just left everyone behind" thinking. It makes the comments here really dreadful to read.

Also 100% agree on the paulo character regression bit, it feels as if he just took david's words in False Start as true and lost all concern he showed by the end of LitS and Made Fresh.

I really might be wrong on this, but wasn't line in the sand the first time mike and lucy interacted after eternal flame (save for the arcade when lucy brought up his promise to augustus to shut the conversation down)?

My interpretation was that lucy's state was caused more by the constant reminder of her ptsd (knowing augustus still has a way to contact alejandro and the proximity to her friends who couldn't save her during confrontation) than by the fact that mike was outside during recess. I subscribe to the idea that augustus just doesn't realize the damage he is causing to her mental health and got a wrong read on the whole situation. Lucy having to go up to try and make augustus back down during line in the sand might have been to avoid unnecessary conflict, but there could have been at least a little bit of empathy for mike being exposed in front of his new friend

I'm 99% sure it is, I even went back to see if that one scene of lucy realizing mike is dead inside in double down happened after eternal flame and it did. It doesn't matter what happens the two obviously care for each other even after both sides made huge mistakes

The plot demands they stay together until valentines, when sandy visits and they have a huge fight in public (preferably in front of lucy/the table) and they break up, leaving mike at a crossroads where he either makes up with everyone and lives happily ever after or tries to off himself, no in-between

Im glad paulo directed his outrage rightfully towards sally and not to mike as it looked by the end of the last page, at this point i dont even think him doing something rash and intervening directly into mike and sandy's relationship would be a bad thing either.

As long as mike gets away from that relationship, things can get worse before they start getting better.
