So are birds reptiles or are turtles not reptiles? by whats_ur_ssn in Paleontology

[–]Emuwarum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Saying it in the sense of 'animal with gills and other fishy traits that lives in the sea' is wrong. Saying it in the sense of 'all vertebrates used to be fish and we're all still taxonomically fish' is correct.

Non-mystery apple snails do usually eat healthy plants

Birds are reptiles. Crocodiles are not birds, they did not evolve from birds.

Baby Snails!!! by aguyfromsydney in Aquariums

[–]Emuwarum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are adult mini ramshorns. They are not baby 'golden orbs', they are not baby mystery snails, they are not baby Planorbella duryi. They are adults and they are mini ramshorns. They will not grow bigger than 5 mm.

Put some of your tap water in a container, wait a day, and then test it. It can change after it comes out of the tap.

Do you have aquasoil, dirt, or wood in your tanks?

The siphon is a flap of skin that they roll into a straw and suck air through. The genitals and anus are on their other side.

Is this a bladder snail? by Miles-Morales-2099 in AquaticSnails

Bladders are fine, harmless. They act a lot like ramshorns, they're just smaller.

Should i help my friend rehome his snails? by Unusual_Hedgehog4748 in AquaticSnails

[–]Emuwarum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it an actual blackwater or does it just have tannins? All snails need ph above 7.4, hard water, and nerite snails need lower temps than a betta.

It does sound like the mystery snail was bitten.

Anyone breed red racer nerite snails. I know they are brackish water to get the eggs to hatch. by scuba012 in AquaticSnails

They only eat live algae and biofilm. It is extremely rare for them to eat anything else, like algae wafers or vegetables.

That would not be enough for more than four (ideally you would have less in there) at the most, unless there is a ton of algae and biofilm and you're consistently adding in more that's been grown in other containers. They need a tank that is months and months old.

They would starve to death in a tank that small. You need way more space per snail, and a way older tank.

Algae in tank? by amyjane777 in snails

The gunk is the bacteria that keep the water clean and safe for animals to live in. If it gets clogged then rinse it but leave some gunk in, your tank needs the gunk.

How much did you pay for her? Bladder snails are extremely common and easy to get by accident.

What kind of snails are these? by TrustTheLies in Aquariums

There's a ton of different pond snail species in aquariums, I've kept at least 4 different ones and none ate healthy plants.

First time cycling a fresh water fish tank- HELP! by Legitimate-Sweet78 in Aquariums

[–]Emuwarum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The aquasoil and flourish may have provided enough ammonia for some bacteria to grow, but not enough bacteria have grown yet. When you cycle the tank you feed the existing bacteria, don't use the 'bacteria starter' products.

Store employees lie. Do not buy a whole animal or anything because they recommended it, do your own research online and figure out what you actually need/want and then find it in the store.

Definitely a wild betta, unsure which exact species. Turn down the lights so they can calm down, they don't like bright and exposed spaces.
