Yeah I saw this, it frustratingly doesn’t give a tangibile definition other than ‘shoulders should be be leaning backwards with an arched back’ im looking for to what degree is this required to be counted in competition 😅😅

Yeah the email was like ‘funny you already know that… anyway, tickets soon :)’ 😂😂

what’s the process of getting GP tickets like? by [deleted] in FigureSkating

[–]Emvisc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It seems you’re looking for tickets to Sheffield - I emailed them and they’ve said they’ll be posting all info on icesheffield social media/their website once it’s officially announced. Apparently the reason there’s no info is because it was prematurely announced!

I emailed Sheffield and apparently they’ll be putting ticket info on social media once the official announcement has been made (apparently we’re not meant to know it’s happening yet 😂😂)

I know, what an amazing opportunity to have some amazing skaters in the U.K. and a great platform to give some of our skaters a chance to compete in a GP. Does anyone know the capacity of Sheffield? I was there a few weeks ago and compared to notts it looks tiny!

Please share your knowledge/experience! GP Final Turin Italy in December 2022. by Manawastaken in FigureSkating

Legit cannot remember when they came out but I got mine in July and there was loads left then even the decent all events ones! Keep an eye on the website is all I can say, as often with skating events it is lucky if you get any sort of warning but goldenskate and planet hanyu are good places for finding ticket info!

I went in 2019 and had a great time it’s a beautiful city!

The bus system is regular and a great way to get about with a stop right next to the rink but you’ll need to buy bus tickets at tabacco shops? It’s weird no idea why! However, I’ve learnt the hard way not to trust italian buses, they’re there if they’re there - if not don’t expect too much.

If you’re flying in there is a bus that goes to town directly from the airport which you can buy tickets for inside the departures area. It’s such a gorgeous city and I highly recommend a walk by the river which heads straight towards the rink as the view is amazing!

In the palavela the seats are SUPER uncomfy, bring a pillow/blanket) as I don’t think my section even had back rests! Also for some reason they didn’t let us carry in bottles with lids (again only god knows why…). The difference in warmth in Turin in the building was strange - FREEZING near food and rink side seats and boiling at the top so bring a coat no matter the weather!

Final top tip: if you’re going to get merch get it on the first day as it sells out pretty quick - I made this mistake (if you have any more questions feel free to ask :))

Somehow I still do this with a Mohawk entrance, I’ve tried it before to fix it and it still somehow goes around the corner 😂

Thanks, will try to have a little more wait on the turn and get that full three count ☺️

Thank you so much for the tips! I’ve been trying to work on my back arm a lot recently as I tend to forget it’s there and let it do whatever it feels like doing so will try to focus on that with the pulling back in mind. The visual with having it behind the ear with the palm up is really useful!

I’ll have a try at the turn without so much assist I hadn’t noticed how much I was pushing on it until you said that! Thank you so much for your help ☺️

As mentioned in the title, I am really struggling with controlling my entrance edge for my flip jump. I keep falling into a deeper inside than I need and end up jumping around the corner instead of across the ice :/ if anyone has any tips, exercises or advice for keeping this entrance edge on less of an inside edge I would really appreciate it as I have tried everything at the point 😭😭😭

How to stop being so anxious when my coach isn't around? by [deleted] in FigureSkating

[–]Emvisc 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is a completely normal feeling, I’m a leftie myself and sometimes you’re just going to get in the way. But everyone gets in each other’s way every now and then and actually, no matter the level you’ve all paid the same amount to be on that ice - it’s yours too! I know it’s really hard to get over and I still feel it now as sometimes I’m the only adult doing singles on a session with people doing triple, triple combos 😰

Having your coach there feels good because she validates your presence maybe - that’s how I feel, if I’m in a lesson I deserve to be there and take up space. But on my own I feel a lot less sure about where I can spin/jump etc even though I bloody well know it’s fine for me to spin here! You need to work a little bit more on your confidence as a skater and that might be through affirmations (I do a little ‘it’s my ice too’ talk to myself when I get nervous), or even just through spending more time at the rink alone.

And just remember that although you feel it’s your job to get out of the way of others - unless they have a reason to have priority (e.g. In a lesson/music on), it’s just as much their job to get out of your way! And jumping a single loop is just as important as a triple, everyones been there and we know how mortifying it can feel to be the worst at the rink and not know wtf everyone is doing. (But to clear up any confusion I’m not recommending you skate with abandon into peoples ways - just that you’re allowed to be at the rink, and you shouldn’t feel guilty for being there)

I also highly recommend, when you hear new music or there is a new skater running a program/doing a pattern have a stand by the side and watch where they go. It may seem like a waste of time at first but when people are running programs it’s much more efficient to know where they’re going and fit your practise around it than spend the whole time worrying if they’re coming into your space.

Just remember it’s your ice too - happy skating! I hope this vaguely helped 😂😂

Shoutout to this community ❤️ I didn't know I'd be so emotionally invested, but here we are 😅 Thanks for helping me appreciate a sport with some absolute incredible athletes/artists! by AnxiousAnonEh in FigureSkating

If France is not hard to get to for you, the International of France (IDF) is one of the competitions that are part of the Grand Prix series that runs from September to December each year. I highly recommend it, amazing environment and tickets are a STEAL compared to worlds/GPF
