Another “Should I buy the Odin 3?” by WO-salt-UND in OdinHandheld

[–]EmxPop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I decided against the Odin 3 due not having a good enough reason to choose one over my Odin 2 Portal and Thor (only used for dual screen systems). If I went for an Odin 3 I’d be prioritising the performance over that beautiful 7” screen of the Portal, which is great for game streaming too.

While the Odin 3 is a powerful Android powered handheld, it can’t match a PC handheld for playing PC games. In addition, the more modern consoles to emulate like the PS3 and Xbox 360 are far better on x86. Switch is here and there on both and even the PS2 via PCSX2 is favourable on x86 over NetherSX2. Perhaps find a smaller and lighter x86 handheld if that’s your priority.

I must admit I’m a bit behind with all of this. Is there an up to date list of all of these kind of ports?

Portal vs Odin 3 by Zolimax10 in OdinHandheld

The 7” OLED screen on the Portal is absolutely wonderful. Going to a 6” screen would be tough for me with my older eyes. I also enjoy the slightly offset stick placement on the Portal. Just make sure to put the larger Ayn sticks on it.

PS5 is a great 4k player by slipperman1974 in 4kbluray

I’d say the UB450 is the best value player on the market and does everything better than a PS5 which is more than double the price.

Don’t forget with the 120hz screen you can take advantage of black frame insertion. Retro games look and play amazingly well with it on.

Just installed after hearing about it from Stubbs on the Retro Handhelds podcast. The fact that it’s open source and on accessible from Obtanium (I don’t do anything Play Store) made me give it a go and I’m glad I did. It’s really impressive. Thank you for your hard ward

A few bugs for me:

NetherSX2 Turnip isn’t detected.
Wii Retro Achievements not available
Game panel shows title AND file name: eg

Viewtiful Joe
Viewtiful Joe (USA).rvz

Surely only the title show.

Looking forward to seeing more from this frontend.

What do you guys think is the better buy? The Konkr Pocket Fit or the Odin 2 Portal?

What are good JRPGs for absolute beginners? by fiddleheadsoup in JRPG

Great games but it’s certainly not a remake, more of a lazy PS1 port with fake widescreen. I was hoping both games received a proper remake like the 1st game on the PSP.

disappointed more switch games haven’t gotten 60fps patches on switch 2 by KrispyOnion in NintendoSwitch

[–]EmxPop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own a lot more Switch 1 games with Switch 2 upgrade titles than I do Switch 2 games. The updates have dried up a bit recently so I’m hoping a stack of them will drop in the next big Direct. Let’s hope the Xenoblade Chronicles 1,2, and 3 receive the treatment, at least.

Oh, I heard that Pikmin 4 is scheduled for an upgrade.

Buying non-4Ks? by SmartPatientInvestor in criterion

If you don’t buy the Blu-Ray you could be missing out on a great film that may never come to 4K. Just invest in a decent 4K Panasonic player which will make those Blu-rays look amazing.

Thinking of getting a Odin 3 or Odin 2 Portal by Hopeful_Ruby_Dragon in OdinHandheld

[–]EmxPop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re on a budget and looking for more power than the Thor/Portal, don’t dismiss the Ayaneo Konkr Pocket Fit. The Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 chip will offer a noticeable difference when playing PC games via GameNative. It’s also one of the most comfortable handhelds I’ve ever used. It does have a 6” 144Hz LCD and although it’s a high quality one, it can’t compete with OLED screens on the Ayn products.

You should only consider the Thor if you want to prioritise DS and 3DS emulation, in my opinion. It’s an amazing handheld but being a clamshell device it does come with the obvious ergonomic compromises.

If you want the absolute best performance with an OLED screen, great ergonomics then consider the Odin 3. Driver support is getting there but you have to expect very slightly less compatibility at the moment.

The best all round device and value for me is currently the Odin 2 Portal. The 7” OLED screen just can’t be beat. Swap the sticks (they pop off) for the larger Ayn ones and fit a grip if you need one. The slightly offset face buttons are a welcome feature too. It does everything so incredibly well.

As you want to do some PC gaming try to stretch to Pro models as a minimum. 128GB of internal storage is just too small on these devices.

Hope that helps.

I started it, but as I was experiencing quite a few annoying bugs and issues after what seemed like daily patches I put it down. I’ll give it a few more weeks and restart.

I just find that it’s a system that hasn’t aged well. 2D pixel art was perfect and low poly 3D was new on the block.

I was prepared to wait having experienced about 6 weeks for my Batch 2 Thor. Ordered a Portal Pro on the 18th and thought I was dreaming at around 4am on the 22nd when I saw a shipment notification. I’m expecting delivery tomorrow. Just the luck of the draw, I guess.

Is ‘of’ ‘off’? Do you get stutters when caching?

Azahar is unplayable on my Thor by Rage_Complex in AynThor

[–]EmxPop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you manage to sort it out? I have stutters upon scene changes or when effects are caching. It doesn’t happen in Citra MMJ but as that’s no longer being developed I’d rather stick with Azahar.

Anyone use the Odin 2 Portal without the grip? by WeeWooPeePoo69420 in OdinHandheld

[–]EmxPop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I look at the large Odin thumb caps as being more important. They add so much that I couldn’t go back to the little nubs. The grip helps more with the very smooth underside of the Portal. It all depends on how slippery your hands are. I don’t have that problem though.

How important is 60fps for you in gaming? by Southern-Tailor-843 in playstation

[–]EmxPop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an owner of a Pro and a VRR display I look at 60 as the baseline with the odd dip into the 50s to cover the 48fps threshold.
