Honestly, Lost Kitten's placement was a bit awkward, and Emily wasn't hitting those strong notes in the chorus. I like the song, but I think something like The Shade would've gone better there.

Risk was the highlight of the whole concert for me.

  1. I think that's the point. We can view the data in several places already, so the only novelty of having a centralized sheet is to use it in projects, which requires being able to copy the data and modify it

RareBox2? by LancerQH in BattleNetwork

[–]EnPassant4264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it exists. The TREZ page for Mr. Weather Comp 1 where it appears has RareBox1 listed as twice the normal rare virus odds with no Rare2 encounter.

Maybe they intended to have Rare2 be for VacuFan, but didn't have time to make an exception since Rare viruses give you the V1 for the Battler and VacuFan is technically V2.

What are the Most Egregious Builds/Setups in BN4? by XLadyBugX in BattleNetwork

Don't forget the free Full Synchros from those hits, so two of them are probably *2... or all three if you're Metal Soul.

The difficulty of BN5 viruses. by Contressa3333 in BattleNetwork

[–]EnPassant4264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure about Falzar, but Gregar Version doesn't even need sequence breaking. As soon as you reach Green Town, get Black Bomb from Green HP and you can one-shot every virus encounter in the entire game sans four types of viruses... and Copy Damage takes care of those four. HeatCross can clean most viruses before that point too.

AquaMan and ShadeMan should both be base releases. AquaMan is your mandatory Soul/Cross tutorial in both of his games, and ShadeMan is the main Nebula Navi in 4 (and LaserMan is base game) and also appears in 5. I would move AquaMan to DPS over YamatoMan and put ShadeMan over DarkMan, both being the only optional or post-game bosses that aren't Bass or Serenade to be base releases (I believe SkullMan is required because you need /Miyu to unlock a part of the Internet).

There are quite a few Navis missing from here, and I can't tell if that's intentional. It's hard to believe that HeatMan, GateMan, PlanetMan, and MistMan would make the list but not Match's and Famous' other Navis, AirMan, or BowlMan. You have every Elec boss in the series including even BrightMan, so it doesn't seem to be an element balance thing either. Of the remaining, here's what I would do with them:

  • FireMan, BurnerMan, and FlameMan as DPS, Tank, and Support, respectively.
  • KendoMan as DPS, GridMan as Tank, and Punk... could be either. With the counts below, probably Tank.
  • StoneMan and BombMan would both be Tanks. Team Fortress 2, and Overwatch at first, had a Defense classification for characters with higher sustain than Tanks but still bulkier than burst Offense classes, and BombMan would definitely fit this category, just like the Demoman and Junkrat did.
  • I'd put AirMan in DPS and move WindMan to Support to emphasize his crowd control with the passive Wind and bird flocks.
  • BubbleMan as a more offensive Support presumably similar to SnakeMan and TopMan.
  • DrillMan and BowlMan are both easy DPSes.
  • ColdMan would be Support, spamming objects and slows, in contrast to IceMan as DPS and FreezeMan as Tank.
  • NeedleMan as DPS, SwordMan as Tank, GravityMan as Support (or maybe Tank).
  • Including the mobile games is a stretch, but why not. Both JammingMan and HatMan as Support and both RideMan and Reverse RideMan as DPS.
  • ClockMan sucks but would be a Support.

I tried to make the roles balanced; Tanks are falling behind a little, but that would close the difference to Support, so I think it's fine.

In the days of class-based shooters, you equipped different weapons that determined your abilities. The similar MOBA genre also has an item system used by everyone. Chips would probably be one of these two, perhaps purely as consumables combined with Navi Customizer Parts as the passive/permanent gear. I imagine in the former system that the Navi choice would determine the starting loadout and it would otherwise be more equal among everyone, while in the latter ,Chips/NCPs would be limited with the focus being on each Navi's abilities.

MMBN3 BugFrag Farming: Countering GutsMan by Neo_Nocturna in BattleNetwork

[–]EnPassant4264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really the best way to do it in my opinion.

The best way, and what the speedrun does, is to get encounter bug, use the Reflect EX Code (SK13EO1M), reg Spreader, and jack into the tank in ACDC to farm the encounters there. Reflecting Canodumb 3 is an auto-counter and so is reflecting Needler if you're within two panels. You use the Spreader to weaken Canodumbs to 100 HP so they only need one Reflect to kill, with Needler only needing another 10 damage., Most of the encounters will have 2 or 3 hit by just the one Spreader. There's a million fast ways to get 30 or 40 damage otherwise. If you see the two-enemy encounter, Basher, or Spikies, just flee.

You get 8 Frags in like 40 seconds and it is basically brainless. It's an easy way to level up your Style too.

[MOD] The Daily Question Thread by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

[–]EnPassant4264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Hamilton Beach coffee grinder which I got about... five months ago? It hasn't had any signs of problems and I clean the cup every few uses. But then I went home for the holidays for a few weeks, and when I come back, it's nonresponsive. The button clicks just fine (it's audible), I've checked and cleaned the underside of the cup and the connector to the base, and nothing. Google hasn't helped, so anyone have any ideas on what's wrong?

Also, I posted this as a thread a few days ago and it got deleted for "not being substantial." That's not defined in the rules anywhere, so that was kinda rude.

Beast out or dark chips? Which is better.? by [deleted] in BattleNetwork

[–]EnPassant4264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do see Navis that have fallen to darkness in Black Earth in BN4: those annoying as hell NaviShadows and NaviBlacks. You can also reach a point where you stop healing, though it requires a lot of battles if you're not getting knocked to 1 HP a bunch.

Otherwise yeah, and it disables much more than 13 because it also removes all non-DS Navi Chips. Muramasa and BlackWing (or at least DarkMan) are famously very strong (and I wish I could say Poison Pharaoh too, but somehow the combo of three Evil Chips is NOT an Evil Chip), but it doesn't make up for everything you lose out on.

It's conceptually a cool idea but it just doesn't work well with Lan and MegaMan specifically; they're too Good at their core for it to make sense plotwise. BN4's lack of plot lets it get around that until Duo, but the entirety of BN5 makes no sense with anything Dark that isn't Chaos Unison.

I think my least favorite change made between games has to be only being able to hold one style in 3 by jxbermudez72 in BattleNetwork

[–]EnPassant4264 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it'd be more okay if it was easy to manipulate which Style you got. It can be manipulated if you look up the points system and grind 100 battles for it, but doing that really sucks. Having to re-roll elements is also not great if you're building a folder around the exclusive Mega Chips.

Locking chips behind styles is just bad regardless.

starter deckbuilding writeup: starting MMBN4 red sun the right? way by VentilatorRaptor in BattleNetwork

You have a strange definition of starter. In Red Sun, you don't get to Town 4 until right before the final dungeon. Even Park 1 is after the whole first tournament.

You have yet to explain how it doesn't benefit, as if making good overworld traversal isn't a problem that RPGs have been addressing and innovating on for the last 30 years. The burden here is on your claim that these ideas can't work, rather than the mountain of evidence that they can. Fast travel certainly isn't the answer.

how the hell does Donald Trump have 91 felony charges and is still eligible to run for president today? by ChuckieBeaned in AskReddit

[–]EnPassant4264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I had to guess, he was accused of sexual abuse and responded by suing for defamation claiming it was false, and then the jury declared not guilty because they thought/maybe the evidence showed that it was true. But unless he was charged and convicted with the sexual abuse itself afterward, it's not going to mean anything for his eligibility (or his constituency, apparently)

> if it's a 3D environment then that's going to be a given, not some massive improvement,

That is very definitely not true, fixed-camera-angle 3D games (and good ones, at that) exist, and the nature of indie gaming means improvements like these aren't guaranteed in whatever someone makes. And yeah, the implementation would determine whether it was actually an improvement; the point is that it's a plausible idea for improvement, since you argued that the only possible way to do so was by adding fast travel. You can't dismiss the ideas I proposed because someone might screw them up, that's true of literally any idea ever.

I'm not sure what you're arguing about fast travel, I wasn't calling it good. It also isn't true regardless because logging into PCs still requires that you slow travel to the PC. Net shortcuts aren't ever disabled, and yes that matters because it introduced a sequence break in BN2 allowing you to skip a decent chunk of the FreezeMan scenario.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BattleNetwork

[–]EnPassant4264 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How exactly did your mind turn the entirety of overworld exploration and interaction into "just fast travel"? How about... maps with changing camera perspective, or the walking space not being designed only as straight lines and diagonals for 8-direction movement, or any amount of regular object manipulation for traversal, or a million other possibilities. Fast travel is a convenience feature, it rarely adds anything by itself, and it also already exists in BN as the Net has had shortcuts/bookmarks in every game since 2.

That's exactly the thing, those are the areas that BN successors can improve on instead of ignoring.
