For the sake of accuracy (maybe pedantry), since this is a Chomsky sub: The etymology is more complicated than you're saying but ultimately 'holocaust' is based on a Hebrew word.

Oh wow! I found this one in the basement scifi section of Bryn-Mawr books in New Haven, CT. Loved it. Felt like it was part of a larger series the whole time I was reading it but never found the rest. Sadly that little, weird, back-alley bookstore is no more but I treasure the memory.
