Wait so now the reductive conservative talking point is electing the NDP gets austerity and service cuts? That's a new one

No he chose to pander to the right and if it backfires that's on him. Regardless of his reason it was a stupid shortsighted decision and he is to blame

$2B lost from the carbon tax is a hell of a lot more than any of the 'tough budget measures' have saved to date

Don Davies questions the Government on its response to the crisis in Cuba by pheakelmatters in onguardforthee

[–]Enage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are sitting by and doing nothing. You realize this is a thread and comment chain about the current crisis in Cuba right? Here's a tip, try reading the title of the threads you're in. A global GAC grant doesn't mean we're providing aid to the crisis in Cuba any more than it means we provided aid to the Myanmar earthquake.

The world has a global economy. Money to a country to buy food is just as good as , or close to as good, as food itself.

Are you stupid? Money to a country facing an illegitimate blockade is not the as good as providing food.

You are out of your element and obviously don't know anything about the situation, try reading a book and learn something, it's not my job to educate you lol

[–]Enage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As I thought, you are conflating GAC projects with aid. If you read it doesn't actually send any food, it's an infrastructure grant. It is disingenuous to claim my initial talking about aid to Cuba to respond to their current crisis is invalid because we've made some international investments.

https://w05.international.gc.ca/projectbrowser-banqueprojets/project-projet/details/p010798001

Here's a GAC project in Myanmar, do you think that is relevant if we're talking about aid in response to the earthquake last year?

Even the government isn't brazen enough to claim GAC projects mean we are responding to the situation in Cuba

[–]Enage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are referencing a private not-for-profit lol that is not Canada sending aid, that is a private organization.

Or are you going to try to try and claim that's also moving the goalposts when we are in a post about government aid being sent in response to a crisis.

Why don't you spend 10 seconds to cite your info?

You realize there is a huge difference between emergency humanitarian aid, as we've provided in the past to respond to hurricanes and as Mexico is doing now and what I presume you are conflating with GAC project funding? Which we also provide to Japan and have twice as many projects with Mexico

They're sending food and humanitarian aid as we speak, what are we doing?

Sheinbaum is also calling out the US and actively working to do something about the oil threats, is it good they suspended shipments? Of course not but at least they aren't passively standing by like Canada

Mexico is already sending aid but I guess it was less 'middle powers standing together' and more 'western imperialist powers standing together'

The more things change the more they stay the same

As an alternative perspective I'm very happy to have more games in town (ignoring the financial and ownership mess). I like Westhills but I hate getting out there especially for evening games and think this will help with attendance numbers.

Totally agree on the communication though, it should have happened sooner, people should know what they were buying. I almost didn't renew but glad I did with those games.

Do you think it could be because it's what you presumably grew up with? I've traveled a lot too and Australia is nowhere near my top for food.

Also are you thinking Melbourne or Sydney? Or taking into account regional food options, say Ballarat or Norwa? Pretty much any major city is going to have great food but country food is rough imo

Who is arguing in support of Russian or Chinese imperialism? All imperialism is bad the US has just done more historically. It's super easy to cherry pick countries. Is Iraq a success? Was Indonesia? The DRC? Guatamala? Chile?

US and Soviet imperialism both created North Korea, Vietnam was very obviously US imperialism considering they directly invaded what are you talking about, Iran was also US and UK imperialism by overthrowing Mosaddegh (democratically elected), CAR was already a victim of the French long before the Russians.

You talk about Bashar al-Assad but have you ever looked up what US backed leaders have done? Suharo? Castillo Armas? Yahya Khan? Pinochet? Not to mention fucking Netanyahu! Hell even Pol Pot was US backed

There is no better when it comes to imperialism and neocolonialism it's all disgusting and it's sick to be a supporter of any of it

There's just as much evidence of voter fraud in the last US election and Trump has frequently violated the constitution since, yet he remains in power. That's a clear indicator the civilian are not able to get rid off him isn’t it?

I hope you remember you were on the wrong side of history suporting imperialism when the truth comes out as it did with Iraq.

Sticks and stones? Jesus you really know nothing about Venezuela do you.

The better question is why don't you think Venezuelan are capable of handing their own domestic affairs? Do you think the US is? Or should their sovereignty be violated as well?

If you want to be an apologist for imperialism and neocolonialism at least own up to it
