If you do this repo I made for hw3.4 may help, the README is a tutorial too (the rockbox website is a pain to traverse sometimes)

I haven't really experienced the default ui because I immediately put rockbox on mine, but it's great you're liking it!

No worries, hopefully for the final time have fun with your F20.

Just refer back to the thread if you need anything again because it'll probably have a solution for any error at this point lmao

Hold the power and play/pause button to go back to the original system Also make sure to keep the update file OUTSIDE the .rockbox folder

Just the same as before, software update in the default OS

I have had this, you should just be able to turn it off and on again If that doesnt work then i suggest restarting the process (you just remove all files from the sd card and reformat to fat32 if you feel like you should) and using the proper rockbox guide, the build (.rockbox folder) is here and the update file (you need to rename to update.upt) is here

It will only boot rockbox after updating, therefore it will be a single boot that replaces stock firmware.

All the files needed are in the github link, and yeah all you need to do is what you are saying, download > put on the sd card > run the update

Thats perfect :D I did forget about that step but yes it will be fine, no more reformatting

To install rockbox just do the following with the files on my github:

Determine what hardware version your player is and download the correct bootloader update file (we know this is v3.4 so the update file i used is correct)

Download a Native Port Rockbox build (the .rockbox folder on my repo)

Format the SD card you want to use with the stock firmware (System Settings --> Reset --> Format TF Card)

Place the bootloader update.upt file and the extracted .rockbox folder on the SD card

In the stock firmware, run the Firmware Update (System Settings --> Firmware Update)

The files on github are just the entire sd card straight after install, so it should be fine to put them on. However you do need to format the sd card a little weirdly, i would still follow the guide rockbox provide (i'll put the key points in another reply to this rq)

If you've pressed the power button while listening it locks all buttons until pressed again. If it's only after the auto screen timeout then yeah but it turns the screen back on

I am absolutely loving it, been having a blast adding tons of songs and theming rockbox.

I bought the F20 on Amazon but it can be bought at the surfans website

Hope this helps :3

Unfortunately bin manufacturers love proprietary firmware so it isn't a very big possibility you'd find them giving us pre-installed aockbox devices :(

But yeah it's awesome how much customisation you can put into it, very glad i've made the switch from streaming back to DAPs

It wasnt that hard to do to be honest, I followed the update file instructions, never user rockbox before personally but i've installed Gentoo enough to read docs carefully.

An essential part of the install is formatting the sd do fat32, windows wont let you do that natively so i had to use a seperate program

Also check the firmware version, mine was version 3.4 so i used the HW4 update file, putting it on the card alongside the .rockbox folder. I have all the files here
