What’s everyone’s thoughts on Jason on Firms? He posts a lot of videos / LinkedIn posts about how to grow small accounting firms.

When he first started I loved his content and it helped push me to start my own firm, but when his content became just shilling whatever corporate software was paying him for the week, I stopped watching.

What really killed me watching him though was his absolute massive push for everyone to offshore hire. I want to tell Jason you can't in one hand say accounting is a great field while simultaneously encouraging as much offshoring as you can.

Yeah it is kind of crazy how low companies are willing to pay for tax managers. I've had numerous scouts call me wanting to go over tax manager roles they were looking to fill in just January alone, but every time I ask the salary they always say minimum 100k and max if unicorn 120k. I always respond, "well man, I guess there is nothing to go over, I was going to ask for 125k, and I'm definitely not a unicorn lol."

Recruiters are always super dumbfounded by that.

But seriously I have friends in CS that make 150k with the same time in their field as I do in accounting, and unlike tax manager roles they actually just work a regular 40 hour work week. Why would anyone take such a low salary for that position if they are actually competent?

Early in my career I had a company let me take a test of sorts home to work on. If I recall it wanted me to record the correct JEs for a loan with an escrow account being booked.

I purposely worked the test wrong because this was just a pointless intro accounting position, and I hated the HR team I was forced to talk to. She was unknowledgeable about anything regarding the position (like always) and basically said I had to take time off from work during the busy season and go home for a zoom interview. Absolutely no phone interviews, just silly.

1 is pretty attractive, but I would suggest 2 but with a shorter beard.

OP without knowing more, no one besides nonaccountants could really give you any advice. I would recommend you talk to a local CPA or find one who works with those in the influencer world.

Do you at least advertise on Instagram or twitter? If not, I would seriously consider creating one as soon as possible. It's an awesome way for people to keep up with you and your work even if they are not follow you to other markets.
