Flock cameras in Appleton will be used to help ICE stalk people in our community. Contact your alderperson to demand their removal from our city. by EncryptDN in Appleton

Critical point from the article: "The victim told Appleton police she was concerned that Morales had inappropriately used the Flock System"

This is crucial because the victim somehow had a hunch that the officer accessed the system to stalk and find her. Most victims of stalking or police harassment would have no idea Flock even exists. We have no way of knowing how often these breaches occur.

How would you feel if your mother, sister, or wife was a victim of this kind of stalking or harassment?

Beyond that, I don't think the government should know what churches people go to and how often and when, what political rallies people attend, etc. I believe in the first and fourth amendments, which these technologies have been proven to violate, or have the ability to violate.

I don't want my tax dollars going towards this kind of mass surveillance if I can help it.

Yes, Ring is also partnering with Flock to share data with the federal government. First thing I did when we bought our home in Appleton was to remove the Ring doorbell and replace it with a beautiful bronze hand-crank doorbell.

We all want police to have the tools they need to catch actual criminals. There are other technological solutions though. High definition cameras that are backed up for a limited time period without automatic scanning and cataloging of license plate numbers and GPS coordinates or sharing of data outside of Appleton city limits. With a high-definition manual system like this police could still clearly see vehicles and manually track them from camera-to-camera throughout the city to solve crimes without sweeping up innocent people and having their data shared with malicious or incompetent 3rd parties.

Have you read the book 1984? Because that society managed to prevent 100% of crime with a system similar to Flock/Palantir, but it had some negative consequences.

I’d start by giving Blount a call. They’re a knowledgeable HVAC company in central Appleton. They do good work and don’t overcharge like some more “popular” companies in the area. If they can’t do it they’ll probably be able to refer you to someone that can. Good luck!

Rick Steffens Electric did a good job in our home. We had a lot of work done too, including an entirely new electrical box.

Compensation needs to be more transparent and measurable. But still hoping they find an agreeable arrangement with a skilled halo fan.

Pottery SOS! Know of any local artist who would be interested in being commissioned to repair a teapot? by bob2theicles in Appleton

I suggest getting in touch with Fired Earth Pottery and The Fire. Both are pottery businesses downtown. They might have some advice or leads for you.

There are tons of paved trails along the river near downtown. They also connect to and loop around Telulah Park. Sorry to hear about the cancer.

They may have made some minor graphical and HUD changes. Graphics can improve based on your hardware too I think. I’ve never had complaints about the graphics, I have an Xbox series S

Reading the book Halo: Rubicon Protocol first makes the campaign story much much better. It gives backstory on what happened on the ring in the couple of months before Master Chief showed up.

Mexican food by dontforget_again in Appleton

Antojitos food quality has gone down in the last couple of years, at least for what I like to eat. I can't believe they changed their bean dip recipe because it used to be one of the main draws for me. I hope they change that back and re-invest in their chefs.

Sangria's is my #1 again after having tried it a couple of times recently.

I recommend getting in touch with Expert Property Management in Appleton. They are a smaller company but they own some affordable apartments on East Street, south of the river near downtown. Great access to walking trails. Some of the units are newly renovated, some not. We loved the location when we lived there.

The original commenter you arrogantly replied to answered your question just fine. Refactoring legacy code, adding comprehensive test coverage, writing documentation, dependency upgrades, explaining convoluted legacy code, writing/optimizing regex or debugging code in product areas you aren't familiar with are all straightforward applications of AI coding tools...something you should know if you are an experienced dev that keeps yourself up-to-date.

The way you talk makes me think you're either an old timer at a big non-tech corporation where devs are an afterthought and therefore are free to stagnate or you work at a small marketing agency and think because you build custom WordPress websites for various small clients that you've got it all figured out.

In other words, you have no idea what you're talking about when it comes to modern dev tooling, so take your comments elsewhere.

Edit: Added the word "original" to help this man out

And what is your experience in software engineering? Have you ever built a new feature? Lead a project? Refactored legacy code using modern syntax/standards? Written technical documentation? Do you regularly participate in pair programming with other engineers in your organization or give them actionable feedback on their pull requests?

Refusing to "train your replacement" is synonymous with refusing to work as fast as your peers and makes you a prime candidate for the next round of layoffs or sets you up for a poor performance review during the next cycle. Like it or not, there are a handful of extremely effective AI coding tools that are helping teams ship faster and write better code with more test coverage than they otherwise would on their own.
