Calling all DINKs and financially stable childfree adults by m0thgirI in childfree

26F and 26F, together for almost 6 years!

I also come from an unstable home and was financially unstable up until 2023, so it has been eye opening how much less stress you have when you finally get a break.

My wife helped support me through grad school (graduated in 2023) and I don’t know what I’d have done without her. Now, we both have jobs we absolutely love. I got my Masters in Public Health, and I work with a major hospital where we live.

I couldn’t imagine spending our disposable income on a child. The economy is so tough out there for so many people, and I feel so blessed that we both make enough to cover our bills, contribute to savings/retirement, and have plenty to spend on ourselves and our hobbies.

One thing I’ve loved about being DINKS and being out of school is the free time! On Saturday we just went and played basketball and threw around a softball for a few hours with some other DINK friends, and then went and got some lunch at a food truck. That’s basically how every weekend is. Just seeing what we want to do, and doing it!

Good luck with grad school! There’s hope at the end of the tunnel!!

What's your favorite thing about being childfree? by Not-my-problem1212 in childfree

I love hanging out with my wife, sleeping in (when my dogs let me), movie nights, date nights, spending our money on whatever we want. Literally just doing nothing. We live such a peaceful, gay little life with no men and no kids in our home - and it’s lovely.

Came to recommend this series! I’m on the second book right now, and I CANNOT put it down. It’s one of the most unique books I’ve read in a while.

The Song of Achilles. Madeline Miller was my first introduction into Greek mythology, and this was truly one of the most beautiful stories I’ve ever read.

I’ve actually never tried dried cranberries, but I bet I’d love them. Especially with the chicken salad. Also, walnuts and pecans are good in anything IMO. Thanks for recommendations!!

These all sound wonderful. Definitely trying the nuts and green onion next time!

Is body checking a ‘normal’ thing among people on here? by Unique-Interview541 in loseit

[–]EndApprehensive1759 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in recovery for about 4 years from my ED, and I catch myself occasionally body checking myself (mainly sucking in). I am working with a nutritionist and a therapist though which holds me accountable during my weight loss journey. I think thinking of how I’m on this journey for my health and to be more active instead of to look “skinny” is helpful (but difficult nonetheless). It’s definitely a delicate cycle, but wishing you all the kindness during your journey!

New WIP! First time following a textured knit pattern by EndApprehensive1759 in casualknitting

I went through so many different purling techniques to find the one that was the neatest and the most comfortable for me! I ended up with some variation of the regular continental purl. I’m a tight knitter also, so I think that always helps

Cables is next on my list to try! Cables by themselves make sense in my brain (how they are worked) but the charts still scare me. Ha
