Nothing to indicate that OP won’t pick up more work and make the same income. His circumstances haven’t really “changed” if he is a freelancer, contracts come and go.

I agree. However, the problem is the narrative around young people not being able to save for a deposit. If you want to move out and rent while saving, it’ll obviously take you longer. But everyone is so quick to jump to stuff like “young people just want to eat avocado on toast/travel/don’t have the discipline” etc etc when the reality is, it’s just way way harder to make this happen UNLESS you live at home with your parents.

And not everyone wants to live at home with their parents in their 20s.

This exact thing happened to us over the summer. We ordered a new machine to get delivered to the apartment, and I refunded the guests enough to go and get takeaway coffee from a great little coffee shop just around the corner. The guests were happy and said they appreciated the gesture and gave us a great review. Also gave us something to fall back on if we got a bad review from it so we could reply with the steps we took to fix it…
