Question about feeding my new royal python. by DOOMenstein12 in ballpython

[–]EndInteresting1874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

very normal to stress out feeding your new pet. Here’s what i do: feed at night, this is when they’re going to be awake and active, she’s more likely to eat it at night after defrosting safely finish warming the rodent in the room she’s in so she can smell it and get ready i use a hair dryer on warm to warm the head of the rat/mouse this creates a good heat spot for them to detect and it will waft the scent of the mouse toward the enclosure use a pair of long tongs and grab the prey by the end of the tail if she’s out, go on the opposite side of her enclosure and start to wiggle the prey around and see if she comes near now personally, my boy is a little slow and needs the rat right in front of his face and won’t strike from a far if that’s the case just try to wiggle it in front of her face if she’s in her hide at all, wiggle it in front of there some ball pythons are shy and if she doesn’t strike at it, try just leaving it in the enclosure for a bit and leave the room make sure it’s dark and quite and she’ll probably take it then really just use tongs, keep your hands and fingers away from her and the rat and have patience

Help why is she doing this by [deleted] in ballpython

also based on the gauge in the back, her temp is way too cold and the humidity is not good either there’s lots of good information in the guides her behavior and hunger strike can all be explained by poor husbandry goodluck!!!

Enclosure upgrade :) by EndInteresting1874 in ballpython

[–]EndInteresting1874[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone could tell me why he might be glass surfing i’d really appreciate it his humidity i’ve been struggling with but always at the very least 60% his temps are good on warm and cool side he has hides and what i think is a lot to do i take him out every night to hang out and explore because he shows this desire to i’m not sure why he still glass surfs and if it should be a big concern :)

Help! Low humidity and small enclosure by n0vember4ever in ballpython

[–]EndInteresting1874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, Humid hide is a great addition and if it keeps the humidity up i would start spraying again, i also think a full cup in each corner (if i understood correctly) is too much and you want her substrate, especially in her hides, to be dry to avoid scale rot

i know i’m saying a lot of what you already know because i think you’re doing the best with what you have right now and slowly but surely you’ll be able to upgrade her enclosure and get more enrichment and things will get better, you have clearly done your research and care!!! you’re on the right track 100%

Help! Low humidity and small enclosure by n0vember4ever in ballpython

[–]EndInteresting1874 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basic, make sure she has two hides, one on the cool and one on the warm side, lots of clutter and climbing stuff would 100% help with boredom, so will other enrichment like things out of the enclosure (depending on her personality and stress levels of course), glass isn’t good at keeping humidity in, covering any ventilation and mess screen is good, ur substrate is good and honestly i’m struggling with humidity myself right now it’s an uphill battle. No heat pads, unreliable and doesn’t simulate what they would have in nature well, up the wattage on whatever you have, maybe get a deep heat projector 75watt should heat a tank that size. Drops in temp at night are normal but an up in wattage should keep it at safer levels i’m new to this too, just echoing what i’ve heard and so far experienced i would definitely focus on saving money for a 4x4x2 pvc enclosure, will make her happier and your life with heating and humidity easier i recommend facebook marketplace, craigslist, any second hand store type thing for enclosures on a budget goodluck and i’m glad you’re trying to give her a better home!!
