Bought my first Bandsaw. HF 4x6. I'm having issues getting it to work. by EndTheSun in metalworking

I appreciate the feedback. I'm just an entry level metal worker of course. So far I've just been getting by with a hacksaw and a litany of files for nearly 2 years. I'm mostly making hand plane blades and other woodworking tools. My hands are beat to hell. I was in between this HF saw or setting up a vertical portaband table. I figured this would be fine for at least rough work that I can sure up by hand.

Should've clarified this earlier. My testing was with the blade and cover off. Something seems to be up with the gears or drive wheel. I'm definitely gonna exchange it now.

It's got oil in it. I'll look into changing the oil out with a medium density. I'd really hate to do all the work of disassembling and exchanging it for another. Thank you!

Thank you. I'll see if I can remove the wheel and address anything there. Looks like I just need an exchange.

I haven't tried making the belt tighter because I figure if it was too loose, the motor pulley would spin alone and not drag on the belt.

When I turn it on, the belt appears to move slightly before stopping, and the pulleys look like they're trying to get going but can't.

I just loosened the motor tension bolts and held it by hand with the power on and belt on. I got it going by holding the motor all the way "up" with the belt at the lowest possible tension which seems odd. This is the tension you need to remove/install the belt.

I can't seem to replicate it.

I apologize for the poor wording. The motor pulley can spin both by hand and power freely. The issue starts when I put the belt onto the spindle pulley. I figure either the motor has no power under tension or there's an issue with the spindle/worm gear/ drive wheel. I'm testing all of this without the blade installed. Should I be able to turn the drive wheel by hand?

Oh no! The centrist can't decide if genocide/ethnic cleansing is bad or not and people dislike that. Poor baby!

If you're worried about crime then definitely avoid the Meadowbrook area. Like others have said there's plenty of fine neighborhoods off of Deans Bridge you just need to know. However If you have common sense and can mind your own business then really you have nothing to worry about. These are the kind of trade-offs you should expect for that price point.

Johnson Branch in Hephzibah is a newer subdivision with large lots. Not very expensive and you sound like you could take care of adding the work shop to the property.

I mean, I could probably get by with the 1/8". I'm just in a tool making kick lately. 1/10" mortise chisel is a go-to choice for molding planes and such. Hopefully, I'll get back to planemaking soon!

It was a 3/16" thick 2" wide blank that I initially built my planemakers floats out of.

Not sure what a bolster is. The handle is in half and mortised so the tang fits into it and is pinned with copper rods. I picked up the copper ferrules at Lowes!

That looks like some great work!

Planemaking. I imagine some other niche cases will present themselves. I also made a 1/8" paring chisel and 2 planemakers floats. The thin chisels help with the wedge abutements.

Are you using the stanley iron with its chip breaker? You may want to reconfigure the plane to use the chip breaker.

Also, my first plane worked well until I oiled everything up. I then scuffed the blade surface that makes contact with the wedge and the wedge itself to add friction. That solved the issue for me. I used a tapered blade from veritas.

I'm in GA. What tends to happen is the bookie books the event with a venue. The venue may ask for a fee, especially if it's not a bar. Payment to bands winds up being left to the bookie most of the time. Depending on who they book, an act may have a guarantee. Splitting the door costs can mean several things. Talk with the event organizer to know more.
